Solarstone presents Pure on Black Hole RecordingsSolarstone: Pure

His third studio album, ‘Pure’ heralds the frontline return for DJ, producer, singer and songwriter, Solarstone (aka Richard Mowatt). A 13-track collection of new music, it features musical co-productions with artists like Aly & Fila and Giuseppe Ottaviani and vocal team-ups with singers including Betsie Larkin, Clare Stagg, Billy McGruddy and Hannah Magenta.

(Forthcoming through Black Hole Recordings, May 21st, 2012)

Pre-order on iTunes

With the trance genre dividing and sub-dividing, rather than follow the fragmentation pack, in 2010 Solarstone diverted to record his concept album ‘Touchstone’. Now, two years on, he’s back with a new long-player and a new manifesto.

“I recorded this album as a reaction to all the riven division that’s crept into trance over the last 3 years. It’s a kickback against nonsense genre terminologies and a fight-back against the self-appointed style councils that try to tell us what music’s cool and what the latest must-like is. Against tracks that have such a mish-mash of sound styles that even their producers don’t know what they are making. This album is both a purification and celebration of the term TRANCE. I’m reclaiming it, for all those who just want to dance to music that takes them to another place, for whom this music is a feeling, a passion, a way of life. So I say: Vive La Trance! You need to be proud of what makes you feel good… To all of you who know your own minds, this album contains PURE trance – embrace it! ”Richard Mowatt, Solarstone – April 2012 Read more

Solarstone presents Touchstone Remixed on Solaris Recordings

Solarstone presents Touchstone Remixed on Solaris RecordingsLast year Solarstone’s third longplayer put the proverbial torch to perceptions of what an EDM album should be. Through tracks like ‘Intravenous’, ‘The Best Way’, ‘Electric Love’, ‘Twisted Wing’ and its title track, Richard Mowatt displayed an ever-expanded artistic range. Erasing established genre lines it travelled across previously unmapped musical terrain. Now, a year on, its time to revisit that music.

Touchstone’s been re-touched!

(Released Thru Solaris Recordings January 23rd 2012)

“Lovin all the mixes. My favourite is the Elfsong mix. HUGE!!”Armin van Buuren

When approaching the album Richard’s A&R mandate was clear: “in essence I wanted to hear fundamentally different sound-designs for each of the tracks”, he says. “No tweaks, revisions or minor modifications. No comfort zones. All-out musical revolution!” With a free hand to take the tracks straight down whichever rabbit hole they saw fit, the radical ‘Touchstone’ remixing commenced at pace! Read more

Solarstone presents Electronic Architecture 2

Solarstone presents Electronic Architecture 2This new instalment may have gone through separately setup in terms of playlist and sound arrangement, but it’s Electronic Architecture, where electronic music meets art, therefore both merged together ended up in something that only Solarstone can come up with – Electronic Architecture volume 2 – having signed to his own label Solaris Recordings, being a reminiscent of EA origins. While as long as many albums, the “side-project” nature of the work allows Rich to break away from exploring every corner of his psyche and just have a very good approach when it comes to a showcased album. There aren’t many left who doubt Solarstone’s skills in general, but those who might be concerned that an EA album means “pure art in its sound full-force of imagination” can rest easy. For a veteran who has seen it all come and go, longevity is to be applauded. Read more

Interview with Solarstone

SolarstoneWith lots of pleasure and gratitude to the father of Trance, the father of Melodic, the father of Epic and the father of Vocals is yet again someone to turn your eyes to. Having an exclusive interview with someone as Rich Mowatt aka Solarstone makes me feel that Trance and EDM (Electronic Dance Music) as a whole it’s far from being unknown and as far I am concerned, Trance it’s safe with someone like him in charge. This interview happen’ to be more like an introduction on his second instalment, EA aka Electronic Architecture, an album that makes a huge buzz ever since its inception. Further more, the interview will covered some other questions in relation to his secret recipe of success, words of wisdom for whoever are stepping on his footsteps and also any forthcoming projects he has in mind, cause I bet a guy like him has a lot to offer :) Read more
