Kill The Lights mixed by Katy Rutkowski on RecoverworldKill The Lights mixed by Katy Rutkowski on Recoverworld

Release Date: 2012-05-10
Label: Kill The Lights
Catalog: #KTLCD01

Matt Hardwick’s “Kill The Lights” label started back in 2008 quickly gaining the reputation of being one of the most exciting new labels on the scene.

Releases and remixes from Matt Hardwick, John Askew, Ben Gold, Filo and Peri, Duderstadt and John O’Callaghan quickly set the benchmark for the label as it regularly topped the d/l charts, gained the support of DJ’s including Above and Beyond, Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk and attracted some of the worlds most exciting new producers.

Fast forward to 2012 and as the label heads towards its 50th release, we have turned to one of the labels newest success stories, Katy Rutkovski, to deliver a compilation bringing together some of the labels key releases over the last four years.

Kill The Light’s launched Katy’s production career last year and since then the talented Russian DJ has relocated to the UK and delivered a superb follow up single also featured on the album.

Katy has mixed the album to perfection simultaneously taking us on a journey through the label and through her faultless DJing skills.

Katy knows exactly how to work a club and this album is a testament to her abilities.

Not only that – it highlights everything that makes Kill The Lights one of the UK’s leading trance labels.

Great tunes made by superb producers – just as it should be.

Kuffdam presents City Lights on Borderline MusicKuffdam presents City Lights on Borderline Music

Kuffdam is a name synonymous with quality trance music and his releases on Vandit along with Plant as well as his solo outings on the label show that in force.

His recent album released on the now defunct Hyline label continues this pedigree and when Hyline ceased trading, we snapped up at Borderline to keep Kuffdam’s music alive and well.

Kyau and Albert presents 15 Years the album

Kyau and Albert presents 15 Years the album on EuphonicKyau & Albert’s ’15 Years: The Album’ – Bridges Two Generations of Trance Music

Few artists can say they’ve made it 15 years of releasing hit after hit, but German DJ and production duo Kyau & Albert have proven that they’re here to stay. Internationally recognized as one of the most legendary acts in trance music, their cutting-edge productions and infectious performances have ignited dance floors since 1995.

After being introduced by a mutual friend as teenagers, Ralph Kyau & Steven Moebius Albert went on to be declared “the biggest DJ band in the world” by MTV Europe and today’s newer trance acts have often cited Kyau & Albert as inspirational sources for their own careers. They’ve managed to keep their electro-trance sound fresh and stimulating, while remaining true to their roots due in part to the founding of their record label Euphonic in 1997. Euphonic is now the longest operating trance label in the world and has released some of the most recognized and beloved tracks by acts like Stoneface and Terminal, Above & Beyond, Ronski Speed and others.

Based out of a German town called Löbau, Kyau & Albert have toured the globe numerous times around, playing festivals like Electric Zoo, Electric Daisy Carnival, Nocturnal, Nature One, Mayday, Trance Energy, and A State of Trance 550. Their radio show ‘Euphonic Sessions with Kyau & Albert’ is syndicated on 24 FM stations around the globe, with over 27,000 podcast subscribers on iTunes.

A culmination of their success can be heard in their latest LP, 15 Years: The Album, where some of today’s hottest up-and-coming DJs–such as Arty, Mat Zo, and Tritonal–have reworked Kyau & Albert’s original masterpieces into fresh and funky remixes. The album also features their newer singles ‘A Night Like This,’ ‘On The Way,’ and ‘This Love,’ featuring the vocals by Steven M. Albert himself. Released on March 12, 2012, the album’s success has cemented Kyau & Albert into the history books as one of the greatest trance duos of all time and the dance music world looks forward to what the next 15 years will bring. Solarstone presents Pure on Black Hole Recordings

Solarstone presents Pure on Black Hole RecordingsSolarstone: Pure

His third studio album, ‘Pure’ heralds the frontline return for DJ, producer, singer and songwriter, Solarstone (aka Richard Mowatt). A 13-track collection of new music, it features musical co-productions with artists like Aly & Fila and Giuseppe Ottaviani and vocal team-ups with singers including Betsie Larkin, Clare Stagg, Billy McGruddy and Hannah Magenta.

(Forthcoming through Black Hole Recordings, May 21st, 2012)

Pre-order on iTunes

With the trance genre dividing and sub-dividing, rather than follow the fragmentation pack, in 2010 Solarstone diverted to record his concept album ‘Touchstone’. Now, two years on, he’s back with a new long-player and a new manifesto.

“I recorded this album as a reaction to all the riven division that’s crept into trance over the last 3 years. It’s a kickback against nonsense genre terminologies and a fight-back against the self-appointed style councils that try to tell us what music’s cool and what the latest must-like is. Against tracks that have such a mish-mash of sound styles that even their producers don’t know what they are making. This album is both a purification and celebration of the term TRANCE. I’m reclaiming it, for all those who just want to dance to music that takes them to another place, for whom this music is a feeling, a passion, a way of life. So I say: Vive La Trance! You need to be proud of what makes you feel good… To all of you who know your own minds, this album contains PURE trance – embrace it! ”Richard Mowatt, Solarstone – April 2012 Read more

Watch Rolling Stone journalist Paul van Dyk interview legendary DJ Paul van Dyk about about ‘Evolution’ here

“ ‘Evolution’ isn’t about feeding the machine”, says Paul. “I started to record it when I felt the time was right and that was perhaps not the same as when the industry expected it. When I began to work on the album, there was no deadline and no predetermined musical remit. No managers saying, ‘you need to work with this person/that person’. What came, came, and I found using this process exhilarating. Given the method, the fact that ‘Evolution’s jigsaw has all slotted into place so well is the ultimate satisfaction for me.” Read more

The first week of April sees Paul van Dyk – multi-award winning DJ/Producer and internationally renowned EDM envoy – plant his next album milestone. The follow-up to ‘In Between’, ‘Evolution’ has been 5 years in the waiting, 10 months in the making and draws on two full decades of musical composition experience. It features collaborations with a full spectrum of producers, singers and lyricists – EDM and otherwise.

“‘EVOLUTION’ isn’t about feeding the machine”, says Paul. “I started to record it when I felt the time was right and that was perhaps not the same as when the industry expected it. What came, came, and I found using this process exhilarating. Given the method, the fact that ‘Evolution’s jigsaw has all slotted into place so well is the ultimate satisfaction for me.”

As far back as The Visions of Shiva, van Dyk’s belief in the dynamic of the studio collaboration hasn’t wavered. On ‘EVOLUTION’ though he takes this to an entirely new level. Regular PvD watchers will likely already be onside with many of the artists accompanying him on its tracklist. They are performers spotlighted by Paul on a regular basis, either in-club, on his radio show, or both, who all, in their way, bring evolutionary aspects to his sixth studio-based album. ‘EVOLUTION’ features collaborations with the likes of Arty, Adam Young, Ummet Ozcan, Sarah Howells, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Austin Leeds and many more. Artful when it chooses to be, ballistic when required, van Dyk’s 6th shows that a filler-free artist album isn’t only a possibility, but entirely achievable. 15 astounding new studio creations from Berlin’s favourite son are about to be unveiled – the Evolution starts April 6th!
