THE GALLERY with MINISTRY OF SOUND
FRIDAY 13th August pres. MAURO PICOTTO
Italy’s most famous export apart from Pizza, be upstanding for legend MAURO PICOTTO! Jetting in fresh from his ‘Space’ Ibiza sessions, Picotto’s sets are stuff of legends. Successfully undergoing the metamorphosis from trance to techno, expect a performance smattered with everything in between – as the CDJ’s are put through their paces. From big room anthems to dark underground epics, this will go down in Gallery history for sure. Do NOT miss this three hour spectacular! DANIEL PORTMAN is an able understudy, with progressive house beats intertwined with tech-house riffs. His productions and remixes are being snapped up by all top jocks, with the Swiss maestro causing a stir in clubland. With THE VICEROY not to be outdone, he makes it his business to send the crowd home, with a smile on their face!
Once known affectionately as the ‘Lizard Man,’ Picotto has now moved away from the genre which spurned anthems such as Iguana and Komodo. The original pioneer of mammoth sets, his six hour stints at Gatecrasher and the like are still fondly remembered by clubbers today. But whilst not forgetting his trance roots, a new style has emerged – encompassing all genres of electronica. But it isn’t just a case of moving with the times. Mauro quite simply plays the music he likes, a taste which has matured as time has passed. Now perfected, Picotto causes twice as much mayhem as before! Prog, tech and trance fused with an array of loops, kicks and trickery galore. There is no doubt it has proved a winning formula, with a series of rammed ‘Meganite’ events leading to Picotto’s new Ibiza project – ‘Come Together’ at Space. Artists are handpicked by Mauro who have his own attributes. Passion, talent and an ear for quality tunes. The new album ‘Mauro Picotto 2010’ is a perfect sign of what to expect. Chunky basslines that will not fail to get the Box rocking!
Daniel Portman’s music signifies that of someone, who had passion from a young age. From the old days of the Akai 2000 Sampler, his tunes are expertly engineered to always stimulate the mind and body. After a bevy of big releases such as ‘Elder’ on Anjunadeep, the latest ‘Baaly’ is the pick of the bunch! Classic violin chords accompanied with a driving chorus and thumping bass. Portman’s collaboration with Gallery favourite Jerome Isma-Ae, on the remix of ‘Salvation’ is a different affair. Signed to Armada, light and dreamy melodies go hand in hand with reverberating drums and piercing treble. This is ultimately the sign of a top producer, with the ability to dream up different compositions – ending in the same result. Dancefloor destruction! With massive gigs across the globe, Portman is soon to become a household name. It is a pleasure to give Daniel the Gallery stage for him to showcase his talents.
The Viceroy often gets overlooked by those unfamiliar with The Gallery. But for the pilgrims who pack the Box week in, week out – he is considered a bit of a hero. From promoting legendary night Vaccine to becoming resident, The Viceroy assumes a position of great privilege. Playing every week alongside the world's top artists, it is a title that every DJ is envious of. But the young prodigy is making waves elsewhere apart from London. The Gallery tour sees him rocking parties all over the world, from Ministry of Sound to Moscow. The Viceroy's closing sets have to be seen to be believed, as put in his own words – 'excellence in the art of sound.'
Of course, '103 Gaunt St' houses the '103,' where Stefano Noferino continues the Italian theme. Founder of Deeperfect records, his productions combine a shower of eclectic beats with tribal influences. His 'Club Edition' radio show is fast developing a cult following, his sets are the epitome of excellence in the art of sound! GUY ALEXANDER continues the fun and games, along with supremo AARON COOK and the talent that is AIDEN HOWARD. RECEEDER rounds off proceedings with his forward thinking tune selection.
