THE GALLERY with
MINISTRY OF SOUND
FRIDAY 20th August pres. Henry Saiz
The Gallery is famous for innovative, ground breaking line-ups. This week is a prime example – welcoming the one, the only HENRY SAIZ. His sets encompass the good and great about electronic music, a delicate blend of emotional trance, techno and tech-house. A stalwart of the Global Underground series, a prolific producer. Each track is designed to tell a story, with Friday sure to be another historic chapter in the rise of Mr Saiz. JIMMY VAN M is a headliner in his own right, a pioneer of the underground sound. Jimmy is an expert at hand crafting his set, from dark beginnings to a peak time crescendo – as the lasers glisten on the captivated crowd. ROBERT BABICZ’s sound will be perfect for the evening, skillfully fusing different genres of electronica with dramatic lows and piercing highs. Hence a slightly different prospect, but efficiently taken care of by GAVYN MYTCHEL – with a welcome return to the box.
With his first ever release on labels such as Global Underground, there is no doubting Saiz’s talents. After catching the esteemed ear of Mr Digweed, Henry signed to the Renaissance label – and from there worked his way into the scene’s elite. His performances are the epitome of perfection, mixing with pin point precision. Tune selection is also Henry’s forte, reading the crowd akin to someone with psychic powers. The Spanish DJ has a powerful weapon and uses it to maximum effect, a record box filled with his own killer productions. The latest release ‘They Come From The Light’ is quintessentially Saiz, unique and captivating. However the remix of Guy J’s ‘Lamur’ will always be hard to beat. A masterful rework, taking the original melody and giving it a whole new aura. The searching build up culminating in a thumping bassline, never fails to cause dancefloor havoc! With running label ‘Natura Sonoris’ and a hectic gig schedule, The Gallery is honored that Henry Saiz is taking time out to show us his talents – rocking the Box as only he can.
We welcome a Belgian legend in the form of James Van Melleghem. A pioneer of the North American scene, he sees mixing as an art form – with a passion for all things music. As much at home, playing downtempo warm up sets to peak time finales. However it is an injustice to refer to them just as ‘sets.’ They are more musical masterpieces, all containing the innovative programming that earmark Jimmy as a global superstar. Complex, layered mixing link angelic riffs into subtle, dark basslines. Simultaneously combining elements from different tracks into one, harmonious sound – demonstrating sophistication and flair. The Ministry sound system is in for a real battering, as Jimmy Van M comes to town!
Robert Babicz comes from the old acid school of dance. Tweaking his sound as the scene has evolved, it now represents all things good about electronic music. A fusion between techno, minimal and classic house, the jacking bass that gave Babicz his name is ever present. With the recent release of album ‘Immortal Changes’ receiving widespread acclaim, it is described by DJ Mag as a "marriage of organic groove and glistening electronic melodies." We cannot wait for Robert to come and show us how it’s done!
With the ‘103’ not to be outdone, JASON JOLLINS makes the trip from Stateside, a pioneer of the US progressive scene with his technical and ground breaking sets. Favourite STEVE LEE ensures that all The Gallery ingredients are fresh for a typical tear up, alongside London boy GREG STAINER, who is renowned for his displays of four deck wizardry. Last on the bill, an exclusive back to back set with TOBY ALLEN and LIZZIE CURIOUS, both with a jacking, energetic sound. Together, the ‘103’ will have its socks blown off! MISS CRAZY D rounds off proceedings, creating havoc wherever she plays...
