Interview with Vadim Soloviev    ( 22nd of August 12:40 GMT UTC )

Interview with Vadim Soloviev
    1. How's everything Vadim ? You have been missed ever since we had the first exclusive interview back in the days of 2007 or something.

Vadim Soloviev: Yo! All good and I'm happy to appear here again.

    2. You have a very soulful sound, which is missing from Trance today, who influenced Your sound ?

Vadim Soloviev: To be honest its pretty hard to explain. Everything influences from day to day. The worst thing can happen is when you copy someone - sometimes you do that not even realizing this. But at the same time you have some fundamental influences from the past that keep you unique. I think that's the main goal. Also never limit my music player with some particular genre because you never know where you will find something new.

    3. What's the writing process like for You ? I know You wrote a lot of Your own material.

Vadim Soloviev: Sometimes I start with the groove - the baseline, drums and percs, but more often I come up with some melody. Both ways have their own bonuses Like in the first one you may deliver some mix of genres and some very clubby tune because making the groove is always based on your dancefloor experience. When I start with a melody which happen more often - it's usually some moody tracks for listening on the radio or in the car. Don't even know which way s better, I think I need to combine them somehow hehe.

    4. Still with Binary Finary Recordings ? If so, any future plans with this venture ?

Vadim Soloviev: Not really, my latest tracks were released at Armada, Intuition etc. but as for BF, I did a remix for them lately, which was released at Armada Music as well.

    5. Oh yes, I remember... I have heard the new remix of Yours, for the 2010's version of "1998". How do You feel to be listed along big names such as Alex M.O.R.P.H., tyDi & Dennis Sheperd for the remix package ?

Vadim Soloviev: Yeah they did a very strong pack, and what is the most pleasant for me is that my remix was also released on a vinyl which means a lot today. I don't even have with me all of my vinyl ever released and now I understand how priceless is that. Some day I'm going to buy all the missing releases from Discogs hehe. And of course this one too. It's always a pleasure to remix some classics and especially today, when the market is over filled with copy-paste music, so this remix is really very special for me.

    6. As far as I remember, along Binary Finary Recordings, You are also signed with Armada, Intuition and Captured. Any other labels lately ?

Vadim Soloviev: Only for remix duties yet, I was very glad to join Armada which is obviously one of the leading labels today. They do a very great job and it is very important for the artist to have a label that takes care of everything. One of the reasons I'm not looking for smaller labels is that dealing with them takes too much time and power, like searching for remixes, doing mastering etc. which should not be responsibility of the artists, but the label. But of course Armada Music doesn't pick up every tune I produce for release, so I'm always opened for negotiations with other labels, but only with professionals hehe.

    7. With major old times top notch vocal records I know from You, such as "Stay with me" along Marcie, "Alive" featuring Kate Cameron under Your alias Sound Viction, and also "New Life" with Nadja, are there any other vocal tracks You are working on ?

Vadim Soloviev: Yes, I have one new vocal tune that was just finished and it will be released at Intuition Recordings. It is even more housey than you ever heard from me I think But it's still on the edge. The vocals were performed by Susie Ledge and she is really amazing singer. It was one of the best experiences of working with vocalists I ever had. I won't speak too much about this track, I really love it and very soon you will be able to hear why! I also have a couple of drafts on the studio, one of them is with my own vocals, but it's too raw yet and I won't predict when will it be finished.

    8. You literally just dropped Your new single "New Life", correct ?

Vadim Soloviev: Yes and I got a lot of positive feedback on it. It was a very long way from the day it was produced until now and I'm very happy that it was finally released. One of few tracks of mine that got played on Russian FM radio stations by the way, and it makes it some kind of special for me, because it's too hard to push non-pop music here. Yes it's pretty cheesy, but it's still club music, and it's great that we could push it to the masses.

    9. What's the craziest thing someone has done at a show to You ?

Vadim Soloviev: Nothing that special at a show, maybe on the backstage But what happens there, always stays there haha.

    10. I have also recently been hearing talks of a pretty big tour that You have in the work. What can You tell me about it ?

Vadim Soloviev: Yeah, actually it was just done, I have missed home for almost 2 months, and I really missed my studio even more. It's very hard to keep all your projects in mind when you are always on tour. But at the end I'm getting so much pleasure both touring and getting back home. It's like to sides of one coin, both are good, but hard to see both at once lol. I have a small break now and I'm going to spend it producing, so keep an eye on new releases coming up. But closer to autumn I'm going to go back on the road and this is very good.

    11. How has the music actually evolved since Your whole inception into the Russian and international EMI (Electronic Music Industry) ?

Vadim Soloviev: If I understand correct what you mean - it's all about the industry? If so - it died in Russia hehe. Yeah it's sad, but CD sales are almost 0 here and digital market is not formed yet, except mobile content. But mobile content market has nothing common with the music, it's just business about the sales like any other. As for international industry, it's a kind of the same situation, sales are going lower and labels release more to compensate for losses. All this doesn't make music any better for sure. Quality becomes more poor, melodies become simple and equal, and so on. Too much of "copy-paste" producers nowadays because everyone can download illegal software for free and start doing beats, but not everyone has left anything behind, except his own willingness to become Armin van Buuren or Tiesto, no individuals, no creation and no passion for the music. They just missed things that we all grown with. Not everyone will agree with me, but at the same time everyone says that 2000's Trance music is way much better than today. Okay, just ask yourself why?

    12. Looking ahead, what does Your future hold ?

Vadim Soloviev: Will see Not really, I'm not doing big plans or something, I just do what I like today and that's great. I really like to travel and see new places, meet people and I hope I will be able to do this more and more. Of course I will not produce this kind of music all my life, I am not even sure I will produce after I will be 40 hehe. But music is definitely with me in the future. Either production or management. I always liked challenges and there are lots of them in this business, so I will never get bored of it.

    13. What are some things about Vadim Soloviev that everyone doesn't already know ?

Vadim Soloviev: Hmm… hard question I am driving a red Audi; I have a tattoo on my leg that was seen by not so many people; my grandfather was an Admiral; 13 years ago I was in love with Natalie Imbruglia haha (does she read this?), would be great to remix her someday by the way; what else… ah yes, I am straight and not married lol!

    14. Is there anything You would like to leave our faithful readers with ?

Vadim Soloviev: Stay open-hearted, enjoy the real music and just be yourselves Thanks for reading my thoughts and listening to my tracks and DJ sets, I really hope to meet you guys on the dancefloors.
