TranceSound.net is proud to bring you the latest news from world-renowned artist Richard Durand. Richard is taking over the In Search of Sunrise franchise and the upcoming release is slated for June 1st, 2010.
The highly anticipated compilation will be Richard's interpretation of the series while continuing with the same concept that has made ISOS so successful thus far.
1. It's no secret that you have taken over the "In Search Of Sunrise" franchise. Can you tell us how it came about that you were offered to mix the latest and eighth in the esteemed compilation series?
Richard Durand: Tiesto parted with Black Hole Recordings and ended the "In Search Of Sunrise" series. I've always had and always will have a lot of respect for Tiesto. The mantle was sort of handed to me to carry on the torch, after Tiesto moved on. I was very honored to take on the task!
2. Approximately how much time was invested in the mixing and track selection for In Search of Sunrise 8?
Richard Durand: About three months.
3. What are your reasons behind selecting South Africa to represent this installment of the ISOS series?
Richard Durand: South Africa is such an amazing country. The landscape and scenery are absolutely mind blowing. When you walk along the surf of one of Cape Town's beautiful beaches you can't help but believe you're in paradise. Because trance is still really up and coming over there, performing is a real treat. Big dance events are fun but when you know people have been waiting in anticipation for over a month to come and see you perform, a smaller, more intimate club is just as great.
4. What is the most important lesson that you have learned in regards to the business aspect of the music industry?
Richard Durand: That you're never going to make it in the music industry alone. You need a good management and record label team behind you.
5. What advice would you give to up and coming producers?
Richard Durand: Be yourself, create your own style, and never do it for the money. If your basis is the love of music and you want to give everything for it, you can make it.
6. Can you tell us about any upcoming singles following the release of "N.Y.C." along Jes Brieden?
Richard Durand: Next month I will start working on new tracks for a release after the summer.
7. What are some of the factors that affect your decision on whether or not you will accept the offer of remixing another artists track?
Richard Durand: I only remix tracks that I like, and mostly, I make remixes for my own sets. Those tunes often get noticed by the original producers, and they often ask me if they can release it. Sometimes I say, "Yes," but most of the time I say, "No," because I would like to keep my DJ sets unique.
8. Have you begun working on your next artist album?
Richard Durand: I will start working on a new track next week and then take a look at planning my next album.
9. Your real first name is Richard, but where did the name Durand originate?
Richard Durand: I did not like to have a Dutch or English name, so I researched throughout France to see what sounded nice with "Richard." [laughs]
10. In which countries do you believe you have the strongest following?
Richard Durand: This changes almost every month! Last year it was Poland, Holland, and the UK. Now, I can also add Australia the U.S., and Canada.
11. We look forward to catching you on your upcoming ISOS 8 tour! Do you have any other comments for our readers?
Richard Durand: I hope to see you all when I'm back in the U.S. this summer!
