1. When it comes to Your style in particular, whose music were or else are You a big fan of ? More like, who exactly influenced Your style ?
Jordy Lishious: Well, I actually like a lot of different music. I'm a big fan of hip-hop, but also of catchy pop-tunes. Phil Collins was the main artist I listened to when I was younger. I've got all of his albums, and also the stuff he did with Genesis. Genesis had some synth-based riffs in their tracks, and that always inspired me a lot. When I got a bit older, I really got into house / dance / electronic music. From the Happy Hardcore period to the tech-house stuff nowadays.
2. You have to tell me how would You actually come to be known as Lishious ? Where is this coming from ?
Jordy Lishious: That actually is a nice story to tell! I used to work at one of Holland's biggest record-stores; Freaky Records in Eindhoven. Loads of well-known Dj's came there to buy their gems. Marco V, Sander van Doorn, Fedde le Grand, Ton TB, Bart Claessen, Jochen Miller were some of the customers. But Marcel Woods used to drop by almost every day... We always had great fun when he was around (I think he's mentally ill, in a good way). One day I was thinking about a more serious "artist-name" for me as a DJ / Producer. So me and Marcel wrote down all kinds of surnames, because I really wanted to keep my first name Jordy. All off a sudden he came up with Licious, as in "You're Delicious". It sounded pretty cool and he convinced me that I should use that name as an artist. I switched the "c" into "sh".. So there you have it!
3. Out of the studio, no gigs, no music industry. What exactly do You fill Your spare time with ?
Jordy Lishious: Music is in my head 24/7. It's just always in my mind.. But I really have a thing for gaming going on. I love how the gaming-industry developed the last few years, and the quality of the games are just so impressive these days. I've got all of the Nintendo consoles, since they introduced the NES!! I'm a huge Mario-fanatic. That's the reason I made "1Up" last year, because the Mario sounds are just so distinctive & memorable. I love to play sandbox games as "GTA IV", but also party-games like "Mario Party" with my mates, "Modern Warfare 2", "Mario Galaxy", "Guitar Hero", ahh well.. You get the idea ;-) Besides gaming I love to spend time with my girl and my dog Fohn (which means Hairdryer in Dutch). He's just the funniest, cutest dog ever! I love him to pieces.. (And yes, my girlfriend also, haha!) Here he is in my studio:
4. Futuristically speaking, what are Your long-term goals in EDM or else the world of entertainment ?
Jordy Lishious: My goal is to keep entertaining people with my music. The music I love to make and love to play. I've got a very clear view on what I think works for me and on the dancefloor. So I would love to play more across the Dutch borders, collaborate with other musicians that inspire me and to keep pressure myself on making better music.
5. Back on the Dj booth for a minute, tell me what's that "live" show element of Yours that makes people dancing and bouncing on Your music ?
Jordy Lishious: When I'm in the vibe, I can let myself go completely. I just love dance-music so much, that I can really get into it. I often hear that that is infectious for the people who are on the dancefloor. No-one wants to see a guy just staring in front of him, standing still like a human statue, right?
6. Going way back to Your early days, at what age exactly did You first become interested in making a career and having a full-time job within the EDM ?
Jordy Lishious: I always knew that music was my thing in life. I used to buy CD-singles and albums from all of my pocket money when I was about 5 / 6 years old. I only was interested in music. I started playing records at school-parties when I was like 8 years old and got my first mixer on my 11th or 12th birthday. When I was 15, I went to the my house-party (Trance Energy in 2000), and Johan Gielen played my very first remix I ever made, which was from "Southside Spinners - Luvstruck". Everybody went nuts, and from that point on it all became very clear to me..
7. Paying more attention on Your discography, looks like You got it all covered, don't You ? Your tracks have enjoyed widespread support by Tiesto, Fedde le Grand, Funkagenda, Sander Kleinenberg, Funkerman and Axwell. Remixing Fedde le Grand, Ceeryl Chardonnay, Prok & Fitch, Whelan & Di Scala, Lasgo, Don Diablo, Roog, Moguai, Erick E, just to name a few.
Jordy Lishious: Yeah, and I'm very happy with that list of players above! I think it's very important to make music that is danceable, but also sounds good. I put a lot of effort in all of my tracks & remixes, and especially the mixdown. You can make a huge record, but if it sounds like crap, it just doesn't work. I'm 100% sure of that. I also make music that really reflects my thought of good music. I want to be proud on every single production that rolls out of the studio!
8. Speaking of that, the remix of Fedde le Grand's "Back n forth" along Mr V, how did You managed to get in touch with Fedde at that time and who came up with the idea of having a remix of it ?
Jordy Lishious: Well, I know Fedde for about 7 years now. As I said earlier, he used to visit the record-store I used to work at. That's how I came in touch with Fedde. That was loooong before "Detroit" ! Back then he already produced some huge records, but never got as big as the things he does right now. When I did the "1Up / Flapneck" tracks, Fedde was the first guy I sent them to. He really liked both of the tracks, so he signed them to his Blackbird imprint, which is a sub-label of Flamingo Recordings. I go to the Flamingo office every once in a while, to let Fedde & Funkerman hear my latest productions, to have a chat and a nice cup of coffee (they make the BEST over there, seriously)... So when I was chatting with Fedde about music in general, he asked me if I wanted to do a remix of "Back & Forth". The answer to that question wasn't that hard to figure, hehe! I think it's just awesome to saw how Fedde went sky-high in a very short period of time, a few years ago. He's a very hard worker and deserves every inch of his success. Period.
9. It looks like Your tracks appeared on several major compilations few years ago, such as: Cream Summer 2007, Dutch Dance 2007, Trance Energy 2007, Godskitchen Electric, being released on top notch major labels such ID&T, Ministry of Sound, New State Music and so on. Are there going to be any more compilations featuring Your latest stuff in 2010 ?
Jordy Lishious: There's a lot of new material coming up on Floorplay Music, Ministry of Sound, BeYourself Music, etc. So I surely hope so! Haha!
10. Again, still asking about Your remixes, what literally made You to have a remix of new formed Lasgo's "Lost" ? And how do You find my own personal review on it ?
Jordy Lishious: Peter Luts, the producer of Lasgo contacted me through Twitter to ask me to do a remix of a new Lasgo single. I used to listen to Lasgo a lot back in the days, so it was a real honour to me! I found it very challenging, because Lasgo's music and my music are not that close together. But I think I pulled it off =) I'm very happy with the result and I think Jelle's vocals on it are just stunning. It was cool to read your review! I saw that you really listened to my remix and you had some nice comments on it.. Thanks!
11. Your remixes has a bit of a "dope & dirty" sound-a-like, a bit more like what clubbers loves nowadays. How do You manage to keep Your style floating when so many artists have changed their sound and style in time ?
Jordy Lishious: I work very hard to keep my sound as it is. As I said, I really want to make music that is close to me, and to what I really feel.
12. Speaking about "Dope & Dirty", this is the name of Your radio show, right ? Divulge something that we are the first to know about the show, also when and how people can listen to Your show ?
Jordy Lishious: That's correct. It's more of a podcast, you can download through my
SoundCloud page. Every 2 months I make a new Dope & Dirty Podcast, because I really want to bring quality tracks to the show. And because I'm quite picky, I don't have that much new music I like for a weekly or even a monthly Podcast. The Podcast really reflects my set and all tracks in it, are tracks that I actually do love to play. I always like to build up the show from beginning to the end. Starting mostly with some deep, dope beats and a bit of a darker atmosphere, and ending it with a big bang!
13. You have once told me, that You know Erick Eerdhuizen aka Erick E really well. How come that You two are not having to many collaborations ? ...and have You ever thought having a remix of "Beat is Rocking" ? I reckon Your "Dope & Dirty" unique style would give a new groove and beat, a whole new perspective to the track, what do You reckon ?
Jordy Lishious: That's a nice idea! I will give him a call soon about that ;-) Erick supports about all of my productions, which I'm very happy with! He's a real party-dj and really knows how to please the crowd, every single time. He throws out his own HouseQuake parties, together with DJ Roog which I became one of the residents of this year. I played at the Mainstage at the HouseQuake Festival in May this year and will do another set at BLM9 (on the beach) in Holland on August 1st. We both have a very busy schedule, so we didn't team up yet, but it would be great to do so in the near future!
14. Busy summer, what can You reveal about Your future gigs in the months to come ?
Jordy Lishious: I've got some very nice things ahead of me.. I've been asked by Roog to close his own area at DanceValley this year, which is very exciting! Also the HouseQuake party at BLM9. And besides the gigs in Holland, I'm doing a gig in Brighton at Prok & Fitch's Floorplay Music Night in September, and also gigs in Curacao and Norway are coming up later this year =)
15. Is there a new track You are working on nowadays ? What is Your next single, or else future album perhaps ?
Jordy Lishious: My latest single "Window of Joy" has just been released on Dirty Soul Records, by BeYourself Music. It is the official anthem for this year's LakeDance Festival in Holland, a great festival for approx. 12000 visitors! I also hosted my own Dope & Dirty stage there with Dj's that really fit into the concept. Hardwell, Infinitze, Prok & Fitch, Rene Amesz and myself are a few of the names that played my stage. (Here's a link to the Aftermovie Teaser:

But about new tracks; there are a lot! I finished a new track called "Plucked", which I'm testing out the last few weeks. I already had some massive responses on that one, from the crowd, as well as from Fedde. Then I did a new remix of my very first Jordy Lishious single "Raw". It was more kind of a gimmick for my own sets, but I'm planning to release it later this year. I already asked a very great Dj / producer to remix it, but I can't tell you guys who that is yet ;-) Then I also did a remix of the classic "Stretch & Vern - I'm Alive". This one has been signed to Ministry of Sound and will be released very soon. Currently I'm working on a remix of a new track that has been signed to Prok & Fitch's Floorplay Music label..
16. Is there anything else that I may have left out or forgot to ask about ?
Jordy Lishious: I think you've got about everything covered =)
17. What is Your message to all people out there, especially the TranceSound.net readers ?
Jordy Lishious: Thanks for all of your support so far! I hope to keep entertain you guys with my music. And uhh, keep it Dope & Dirty! Whoohooo!
