Upon arrival at Cielo there was a short line, but the staff got everyone moved inside quickly. Once we entered, the place was already packed and Gareth was just about to get on the decks. I got a drink at the bar and made my rounds to locate at friends that were also in attendance. As I was making my rounds I got into a bit of a disagreement with another male patron whom was acting inappropriately towards me as well as another female at the club who was visiting from England. I spoke with the woman and asked her what happened, and told her I would go speak to the bouncers to report the occurrence. The bouncers were extremely courteous and professional. Within minutes they contacted the head of security on the radio, and he arrived quickly concerned to hear what we had to say. He located the patron we were referring to and escorted him out of the club. He explained that the guy is gone and would not be bothering us anymore. I was very pleased at how the matter was handled and I would not hold this type of thing against the club as it could happen anywhere. I didn't let this ruin my evening in the least, and with the help of the amazing tracks Gareth Emery was playing I forgot about the incident quickly.
Since Gareth was making his New York debut the only expectations I had for him were examples of what I had heard from some of his live shows as well as his podcast. Not only did he meet my expectations, he surpasses them. At one point he played three of my recent favorite tracks back to back. The crowd was going wild and loving every minute of it. The lighting and effects went very well with the music. It was such a great fun filled evening we really did not want to leave. We stayed until closing and snapped some pics with Gareth and then security steered everyone towards the exit. I would definitely love to see Gareth in New York again and I think the rest of the crowd would agree he made quite an impression on them.
Here are some notations of some of the tracks he played. They are in no particular order:
Oceanlab - Lonely Girl (Gareth Emery Remix)
Oceanlab - On a Good Day
DJ Tiesto - Lethal Industry

Whether it was his critically acclaimed debut on the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, or his rise to number 23 in the definitive DJ Mag Top 100 Poll, there wasn’t much that hasn’t gone right for Gareth Emery so far, following a year that saw him become increasingly established as one of the most innovative, unique, and exciting figures in dance music. With numerous world-class productions, explosive DJ sets across the globe, and one of the scene’s most downloaded podcasts, you wild think he’s a long-established dance music veteran. But at 28, he’s just getting started.
Boasting a relentless touring schedule that sees him demolishing dancefloors at the some of the finest clubs like Home, Zouk, The Guverment, and Amnesia or festivals like Holland’s Trance Energy or Belgium’s Tomorrowland, the world has quickly become witness to Gareth’s signature style of languid, spacey grooves, juddering basslines, killer melodies, and hooks. It is no wonder he has garnered acclaim from a who’s who of trance’s biggest names. A list that includes Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Ferry Corsten, and Paul van Dyk.
Gareth was one of the first DJs to embrace the current craze of podcasting when he launched The Gareth Emery Podcast in 2006. The antithesis of long drawn-out DJ mixes, the show soon became the essential download for savvy dance music fans, with each episode providing an expose of the best that the world of trance, house, and progressive has to offer. Its success hasn’t gone unnoticed by the industry either, being nominated for ‘Best Podcast’ at the IDMA Awards every year since the category was introduced.
His 2009 plans encompass a staggering amount of new projects, including his debut artist album and Garuda, his new record label and events brand he’s launching after previously heading the much-missed Five AM imprint.
