TranceSound recently contacted Leon Boiler for a quick follow up post the release of his latest album Streamlined 2009 - Buenos Aires. Leon mentioned his new EP will be out in about a week so stay tuned. Continue reading for more info...
1. How many releases and remixes have you produced thus far in your career ?
Leon Bolier: Tough question! Let me look it up on discogs: About 30 Leon Bolier releases, 26 remixes and a couple of Subsphere, Precursor, Surpresa, Inner Stories and other aliases releases. Plus an artist album, a solo DJ mix compilation and I mixed one of the CDs for Trancemission, a double CD that got released on Cloud 9 last year.
2. Which artists have appeared on your productions and how did you go about collaborating with them ?
Leon Bolier: I did collabs with Menno de Jong, Cliff Coenraad, Joop (co-produced The Future, Prominent, On Top Of Things, 3008 and others), Galen Behr, Daniel Wanrooy, DJ Astrid, Jonas Steur, Freek Geuze (Fine Taste) amongst others. Also there’s collabs with Marcus Schössow and W&W coming up.
3. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time when you are not in the studio ?
Leon Bolier: I try to catch up with family and friends whenever there’s time, since I miss out on a lot of birthday parties n stuff due to touring. Apart from that I like to watch good movies. I used to draw and paint a lot but since music takes 95% of my time there’s no time for it anymore really.
4. For those that have never met you in person, what type of personality do you have, are you adventurous and outgoing or more conservative and quiet ?
Leon Bolier: Well, to travel the world on your own I guess you have to be a bit outgoing and adventurous, and politically speaking im way more progressive than conservative, tho on the other hand for people that don’t really know me I might be a bit introvert tho I always try to make time for a chat.
5. What are some of your goals in the trance scene ?
Leon Bolier: Keep doing what I do, production wise I want to improve every day – that’s why Im always looking into new ways of producing music, both technically as music wise. From there on I want to bring my DJ sets to a higher level all the time.
6. Do you prefer production or the DJ aspect of the music industry more ?
Leon Bolier: Like many of us said before, both aspects are great parts of my daily life, tho I cant really compare them. Showcasing music during DJ sets, and getting huge crowd reactions gives me the chills, as well as finishing something in my studio that I really love.
7. Can you tell us anything about your upcoming tour dates ?
Leon Bolier: I just am home after a couple of hectic summer months, but in the coming time I will be visiting Egypt, Canada, Ireland amongst many other countries (some festivals/parties can’t be published in my agenda yet) and towards the end of the year I will be preparing for my own club event ‘Streamlined’ in club Poema, Utrecht, The Netherlands, December 26th.
8. What track do you plan to release as your next single, and when is it due to be released ?
Leon Bolier: In about a week my Lunar Diamond/Seraphic EP will be released on 2Play/Spinnin records.
9. What are your top 5 favorite tracks at the moment ?
Leon Bolier: Andy Duguid ft Julie Thompson – Falling
Jan Oostdyk – Eivissa Eivissa
Artento Divini – Biding my Time
Three Drives – Automatic City
Deepcare - Patrone
10. Do you have any closing comments that you would like to share with your fans out there ?
Leon Bolier: Wherever you are and whoever you are, I hope to see you around the globe at one of my gigs!
