Alex M.O.R.P.H. also known as Alexander Mieling is a producer/DJ based out of Germany and signed to the Vandit label. He has performed at venues around the world including a number of well known festivals including Mysteryland, Trance Energy, and Nature One. In addition he is one of the co-founders of the Heavens Gate Trance Events in Germany.
After the release of his latest album entitled Purple Audio on on June 13th we felt it was a good time to catch with with Alex to get more details on the success of the album as well as find out what other projects he has going.
1. How many years have you been producing now?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: I started DJing more than 15 years ago, and the producing started maybe 12-13 years ago. A long time when you think about it!
2. Your debut album Purple Audio was just released on June 13th, how is it doing in sales so far?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: It's going really well, which makes me happy of course! People send me great feedback, they think it's a quality album and I'm really proud that it's being accepted so well!
3. What is your personal favorite on the album?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: Depends on the mood really! I love the album as a unit. It has many various styles on board and I cannot name one single favorite track, as I really enjoy every production on it!
4. What track do you plan to release as your next single, and when is it due to be released?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: Right now we are discussing this with the label, so it's not 100% sure which single will be released next! We have several options, and some great mixes are available for some of these tracks, some are in the making at the moment, so you can definitely look forward to that!
5. What track do you feel is your most successful track to date?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: Hmmm, hard to say. I get scarily great feedback on "Maximum Overdrive" or "Walk the Edge". But "Sunset Boulevard" is maybe my most successful track so far, it still goes very well! If you include Remixes, one of the most requested tracks is my remix for Armin van Buuren "Shivers". People still like it a LOT!
6. Where do you get the idea to name the album Purple Audio?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: I love to draw in my free time. Actually almost every picture at my home‘s walls is drawn by myself. And what I love, is the purple colour. It‘s so strong and sharp, but still gentle, warm and beautiful. And it‘s the colour of the year - you cannot escape purple in 2009. It‘s in fashion, in art, everywhere. So I combined the colour with my other love which is music. Purple Audio.
7. Can you tell us about any of your upcoming performances?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: Well, I'll fly over to Canada in September (Vancouver+Montreal), already looking forward to this! Another exciting thing will be the big Soundtropolis event in Essen, Germany in October, where we (Woody + me) play the opening set on the mainstage and also host our own HeavensGate Floor.
8. In your own words how would you describe your style; and How seriously do you take your performances?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: My style is quite versatile. I never put too much focus on one thing. I do the uplifting bangers, I do some Progressive tracks, and I also enjoy some slower, softer things. It's just about to put it in the right moments. Then it's meaningless if it's called "Trance" or "House" or "Tribal" or whatever.
And of course I take my performances seriously I always want to make it as perfect as possible, and sometimes it's easy, sometimes more difficult. I always try to be prepared for everything, to make every crowd have a good time.
9. How do you feel about the trance scene in Germany at the moment; and is there anything that you wish were different?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: At the moment it looks very promising, and it was about time after all these years! Some big organizers and club owners are starting to build a real platform for Trance events (as I mentioned above), and we are happy to support this trend with our own HeavensGate events. So, right now we all have a positive feeling about Trance in Germany!
10. Do you have any closing comments that you would like to share with your fans out there?
Alex M.O.R.P.H.: I just wanna say THANK YOU for all the massive support over the years, for your great comments, you're all a very strong motivation for me, and I hope you find your way to one of my gigs in the upcoming weeks and months!
