Interview with Reaves & Ahorn    ( 07.07.2008 - 22:40 GMT UTC )

    1. How did you two first team up ?

Reaves & Ahorn: We first met in 2003 through a common friend. I (Niels) was already producing tracks together with this friend and soon later Dan joined the studio and we became friends. With the time we found out that we both share the same passion for music and we both have the same idea what makes a track cool so we started to work on own tracks – yeah and that lasts still today ;-)

    2. How long were you producing before some of your tracks received significant attention ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Its different, while I was already into music production since 1996, Dan originally started as a DJ and joined later and developed his production skills. But as a team you can count our both production days starting from 2003.

    3. Do both of you DJ as well ?

Reaves & Ahorn: No, not yet. As mentioned before I have been into producing since my ever beginnings of my interests for music but this have all been in the studio so I never experienced DJing so far. Dan is a DJ from where its all started and so it’s a perfect match for us ;-). Of course since we met in 2003 we are trying to develop our skills, so Dan is more and more into the productions and me has already spun some vinyls so far.

    4. Paul van Dyk recently played your track “Shifting Lives” on his radio show “VONYC Sessions”. How does it feel to be supported by one of the best trance DJ’s in the scene ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Of course it's always a big honour for us seeing our tracks being play listed by top DJs around the world such as Paul van Dyk. In addition we are proud that Paul has picked up “Shifting Lives” beside other tracks for his new compilation “Cream”. We are glad that Paul is supporting our music since where it all started for us as a producer team on Vonyc. You know, even if everybody says that a playlist entry from a top DJ doesn't’t makes a record huge it surely help to raise the interest in the tracks being played so we are very thankful for that kind of support of him. But it is not only Paul, in the meantime you can find the name Reaves & Ahorn in a lot of sets and radio shows of worldwide known and established DJ’s like Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, John Askew, Above & Beyond or Tillmann Uhrmacher, to name only a few.

    5. What was your first reaction when you found out that Vandit Digital wanted to sign your latest track ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Simply massive, you know VANDIT and also its digital imprint VANDIT Digital is one of the leading labels for electronic music and for us being picked up as bloody young newcomers this is absolutely great. We both know how hard it is to get your music released so we are very happy that VANDIT Digital has signed it and they're have been doing a really really great job so far. They are all very professional and that’s of course one more proof for being renowned as one of the best labels for electronic music worldwide.

    6. Where do you aspire to be in your careers in the upcoming year ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Well, hard to say. You will never know what comes tomorrow. But what we can say for sure is that we will keep on making music because it's our passion. Of course we are going to see more releases for the upcoming year as well as some remixes. What definitely needs to be improved is the DJing side of things. This has been disregarded this year due to our full time jobs but this is definitely one thing we will more take care off the next months.

    7. You believe that both of you will return your focus to your solo careers at some point at least temporarily ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Being a team is nothing, which automatically excludes solo projects. We are both musically open minded and if our mood is telling us to do something different which won't fit our taste of music as a team this will probably end as a solo project. This is of course nothing with a negative meaning, it's just that we both have wide spread interests in music. But of course the main focus lies on the Reaves & Ahorn project.

    8. Are you currently working on an album together, or do you plan to in the near future ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Speaking of an album is way too early at the moment. Sure we are permanently developing new ideas in the studio and there is already a huge bunch of tracks and demos that might be suitable for an album but at the moment we are focusing on new single releases. But never say never ;-)

    9. What clubs do you frequent or perform for in Germany ?

Reaves & Ahorn: Unfortunately we don't have any residencies or clubs, which we frequent regularly. Dan has been around on some really interesting places like Bali, Vienna, Budapest to spin and of course some festivals here in Germany, like the Nature One main stage or the Love Parade, but it's a damn hard thing to get some cool gigs. That's like I answered the question before, that's where we are going to put more effort into the DJ side of things. So maybe some promoters are reading here, feel free to touch base! We are looking forward to it!

    10. What are some of your favorite tracks at the moment ?

Reaves & Ahorn: There are quite some great tracks around at the moment. Preferably from the VANDIT imprints we like the recent work of Jon O’Bir. He's done a really great job on the single as well as on the album. Also Activa is an artist who always never disappoint. Alongside this we are of course into the productions from our second label home base Discover which includes the likes of John Askew, John O'Callaghan, Neal Scarborough and some others more.

    11. Is there any exciting news or upcoming projects that you would like to tell us about ?

Reaves & Ahorn: One thing that has been exciting the last weeks is of course our single release “Shifting Lives” on VANDIT Digital. On the remix side of things we have recently finished a remix for Sensate Recordings. It's called "Antarctic Night from Blue Tente", which is already out on all good download stores.

    12. In closing, do you have any final comments to address your fans ?

Reaves & Ahorn: We would like to thank everyone who have been supporting us this far! It's a great feeling to share our idea and passion for music with all you guys from around the globe. Just keep the scene alive, avoid illegal downloads and support the artists and the industry!
