Interview with Probspot    ( 24.04.2008 - 16:10 GMT UTC )

    1. Apparently, you began your musical career not in trance, but in other types of electronic music. In what way does this past have an active influence in the way you produce nowadays ?

Probspot: I believe it’s a good to take inspiration from different kinds of music. My first love was psy/goa trance and drum & bass. Later on it was techno and house. And even though my productions have moved in to another direction, those styles probably has some part in how my music sounds today. I try to incorporate elements of the music I like in my music. And occasionally I make some drum & bass just for fun.

    2. Which idea was to name him Rico Soarez ?

Probspot: Yeah It´s just a nickname that a friend of mine used to call me. And I’m not really sure how he came up with it. I suspect alcohol had something to do with it. Anyway, I needed a new name for a few tracks that got signed to armada. And I decided to use it. At that time the probspot name was signed exclusive to Lost language, so I could not use it on other labels except for remixes.

    3. Are you planning to have more collabs with Andrew Bennett ?

Probspot: Yes, we are working on a track right now. Andrew has an album coming out and we will probably make one or two tracks for that. Andrew is a great guy and we work well together.

    4. What was the best thing happened to you since you are producing music ?

Probspot: Ever since I first started making music, I really wanted to make my own album. So when I finally got the chance to do it, it was a dream come true.

    5. Can you compare Andrew Bennett style with yours ?

Probspot: In some ways I suppose. We sometimes make similar music, but we have different producing techniques. Andrews music is a bit darker and more similar to my music from a few years ago.

    6. What do you think music is and how do you see it both from your own perspective and a global view ?

Probspot: That is a difficult question to answer. For me it has a lot to do with emotions. It is like a taste/smell or looking at a beautiful painting. It fills you with all sorts of emotions depending if you like it or not. What I do know is that music is very important and this world would be a dull place without it.

    7. Do you think Trance music is actually dying ?

Probspot: It might not be as popular as it has been in the past, but it’s definitely not dying. It is evolving. And I believe that is a good thing.
