Interview with Oscar G ( 06.04.2008 - 16:40 GMT UTC )
1. Oscar, what would be the simplest way to describe the current genre of music you are currently working on ?
Oscar G: HOUSE MUSIC
2. Do you feel that your style is changing over the years, and if so in what ways ?
Oscar G: I would say it develops more than it changes. There are certain principles that I still apply that are probably a big part of what make up my "style" but I am constantly listening to and influenced by new music.
3. I understand you have just released a new CD. Can you tell us more about it ?
Oscar G: It is titled "INNOV8" released on "NERVOUS RECORDS". It is my first solo artist album and an attempt to bring my worlds of DJing, producing and writing all into one project. They are all original songs I wrote and produced, arranged and blended together as a DJ set.
4. Being that you have been around since the Twilo days, how would you say the scene has changed from then till now ?
Oscar G: I would say the biggest change is how HUGE this movement has become. There are people from every corner of the globe making an impact musically on our scene.as well as artists traveling all over to play..If you look at Beatport, and sites like it, its pretty amazing how many artists and how much music there is.Although, in the US it has remained under the radar for the most part..it's still very healthy in the "underground" where it lives and breathes anyway.
5. What do you think could be done to improve the electronic music scene ?
Oscar G: Less hype. More substance.
6. Will there be any future releases along with Ralph Falcon under the Murk Boys alias ?
Oscar G: Ralph is finishing up his upcoming album at the moment..Once he is done, we are planning to get started on a few ideas we have on hold..as well as launching MURK DIGITAL..which will be an outlet for our new material..We are also doing a weekly radio show on SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO/ AREA 33 called MURK: MADE IN MIAMI
7. Who are some upcoming artists that you currently feature in some of your performances that you believe are worthy of a mention ?
Oscar G: STRYKE, DMS12, CHRITIAN FALERO, PATRICK M AND DJ WADY, ARMAND PENA, LUPON, VINYL LIFE, ALEX CELLER, SHARP AND SMOOTH
8. Which clubs and venues are you favorite to perform at ?
Oscar G: I love to play at Space in Miami because it is my home. I get to play 10 hour sets every week to an amazing audience..they are trusting and open to new music.it's a pleasure to play for them.. I also love Pacha, and Cielo in NYC. New York has a long history of dance music and I always feel privileged to play there.
9. How has your tour been going thus far, and are there any memorable experiences that you would like to share with us ?
Oscar G: I am fortunate that I get to play pretty often for people, so I get to experience MANY special moments. It's always great to see people moving to music, its my favorite thing to watch! I played in El Salvador recently, it was a huge outdoor event for Ministry of Sound. The crowd was so up for it ! It was pretty inspiring.
10. Your schedule for March includes many dates in Florida for WMC, what type of experience do you expect to deliver to the partygoers ?
Oscar G: I try to bring people something different and deliver music I really like. I also want them to hear things that aren't necessarily familiar to them. I like to keep a constant eye on the dance floor because I want to play for them not to them..hopefully they walk away with a few special moments they will remember.
11. Do you have any comments that you would like to share with your fans ?
Oscar G: They allow me to do what I love and I sincerely appreciate it. THANK YOU!
