Interview with Marco V ( 07.05.2008 - 19:00 GMT UTC )
1. Marco, it is a pleasure to have this interview with you. I understand that you have a lot going on at the moment and we would like to explore the current situations and how you are handling them.
Marco V: I am working on my new album, and I still do all the Dj touring as well so I have to do a lot of pre-productions on my laptop computer.
2. How have you been dealing with your fame and success ? Are there any future plans to further your career ?
Marco V: The funny thing is that it never feels like you have success. I think the best has still to come and that keeps me going and gives me a lot of energy.
3. You have recently changed your style a bit, can you provide more detail on what one might expect from your current sound ?
Marco V: I don’t know. I make music in the first place for myself. I like to have a good time in the studio, and not care too much about what people think of my music.
4. Would you still consider yourself a trance Dj ?
Marco V: My problem is that I do not really play one style of music, so it is very difficult to put me in a hole. The only thing I know that my sets always works when I play in a trance line up so if you have to label me I think I it is the best to call me a Trance Dj.
5. You are currently touring to promote your new style, how does your schedule look ?
Marco V: I am flying all over the world, the same like the last 8-9 years. From North to East, the South and West ;-)
6. For those that are not in the know can you provide more details on what happened with your recent cancellation to perform in Syria ?
Marco V: I got death threats on my website, they told me if I came to the performance I would never see daylight again.
7. Do you think this will be an issue again in the future, and if so what steps do you expect to take to resolve this ?
Marco V: You know... I like to enjoy what I am doing and have a good time, so if I got threats like this in future in countries where I never been before I will cancel my show again. I never been to Syria before so it was hard for my management to make a decision, but we are planning a new show in Damascus soon.
8. Can you give us an overview of what to expect on your upcoming tracks, and when they will be released ?
Marco V: On my new album there will be a lot of different styles of music, some Trancy, and some others more Techno. But overall I think the album will be a bit more Trancy than my 200V album. It should be out after the summer.
9. Can you name 5 tracks that you playing frequently in your sets and what type of energy they bring to the dance floor ?
Marco V: 1. Ali Wilson – Quiver (a great Techno-Progressive song with a lot of energy, which is perfect some where at the end of my set)
2. Benjamin Bates (bootleg of the band Muse, total happiness, and hands in the air!!)
3. Benjamin Bates (bootleg of the band Goose, it makes everyone jump and has a great buildup and climax)
4. Andrea Doria – The beauty of silence (more of Minimal kinda groove with two great Trancy Breaks. Very, very effective!)
5. Toca Disco – Morumbi (this one is a bit older but a perfect track to switch between different genres of music)
10. What is the story behind the title "Dudak” ?
Marco V: There is no real story, it is just a small sound bite of “Is Everybody Alright?”
11. In your opinion, what is the direction of EDM in the future ?
Marco V: I wish I knew, I would be the king ;-)
12. Can you share any memorable moments or great accomplishments as an artist and Dj ?
Marco V: I am still very happy with my 5 golden records for Godd, Simulated, Delmp3, Indicator, and Loops and Things. Especially because today with all the downloads it is very difficult to sell so much vinyl that you can reach the golden status.
13. How do you feel about Sander van Doorn as an artist ?
Marco V: It is great to see that new talents from the Netherlands such like Sander, Fedde Le Grand, Benjamin Bates, Mason etc. breaking true now in the rest of the world. This is very good for the Dutch EDM music scene.
14. Are there any other artists whom you feel have had a major influence on EDM ?
Marco V: It is impossible to have a major influence nowadays in EDM. Only a whole genre can make a difference. Like the Electro House 3 years ago, and at the moment it is Minimal that is getting more, and more fans in the world right now.
15. I see that you performed alongside Robbie Rivera at Winter Music Conference (WMC 2008), how do you feel about his music and how did you two get connected ?
Marco V: Robbie is a great guy, and I always liked his Tribal House from the beginning. That is why I have asked him to play at my "In Charge" area at the Dance Valley festival last year.
16. Are there any other comments that you would like to share with your fans ?
Marco V: Hope to see you all out there soon.
