Interview with Heatbeat ( 20.07.2008 - 17:30 GMT UTC )
1. Do you believe that originating from South America has impacted your success ? If so, in what ways ?
Heatbeat: To be honest , we think its all about the music. You can be in Europe, Asia, Mexico, Argentina or in the most hidden place in the world, but if you have a good computer, good pair of monitors and you know how to write music, you can do a good EDM track. Of course we are from Argentina and we have positive consequences and negative, but we try to show ourselves with our music and not from where we live.
2. How is the trance, and EDM scene in Argentina ?
Heatbeat: Actually here the scene is very big (last year Creamfields, Buenos Aires got 120,000 people). Here we have loads of clubs and the most respected DJ’s from all over the world come here really often (talking about all genres, not only trance music). Talking about clubs we have Pacha and Crobar in Buenos Aires, Bigone Club (This is the club where we are residents) and there are other which are really great. The scene here it is all about House and Trance, but also you have a big part that likes Minimal, and also you have Drum and bass parties which end at 8am, and club is still full with 600 people (it's madness!!!)
3. Have you toured anywhere outside of South America as of yet ? If not, will you be working on arrangements to do so ?
Heatbeat: We have been on touring in Central-America 2 times, in Guatemala and El Salvador. They are really young scenes but you could easily get really surprised cause the crowd is very energetic and they know what you are playing, loads of potential in that area. The people which are managing those places are doing really good job. We are working on visit Europe for the first time in the last part of this year and if not.. for sure in 2009.
4. How many remixes and productions have you created since you started ?
Heatbeat: Well.. we started less than two years ago. Talking about productions we have more or less than 10 tracks, and talking about remixes I think 12. What we always want is to focus on our own stuff always, we think it's a better way to promote yourself.
5. In what ways do you try to improve a track when you remix it ?
Heatbeat: I think it's not the word "improve". When we do a remix of a track, we try to add a “Heatbeat” touch. What's “Heatbeat” touch ? Well.. we love to see people dancing when we play our stuff, so we always try to do stuff for the club so people can dance like crazy, jump, and have a good time. We took elements from Electro, Minimal, Progressive, Drum and Bass, Breakbeats, whatever helps, but always keeping some trance elements in the stuff. Energetic, Clubbing, Fun, passion, that is what more or less we try to do in our stuff.
6. What artists would you have an interest in collaborating with in the future ?
Heatbeat: Talking about the trance scene, we think John O'Callaghan. He is amazing, his capacity is unlimited and he can produce melodic stuff and also banging stuff.. that's a real producer. As well as Sean Tyas, when he came to Argentina we made good friends, he is a crazy, funny man.
7. What is the largest audience that you have performed for and what was the occasion ?
Heatbeat: Largest Audience was at Istmo Night in 2008 in El Salvador, couple of day ago with 3,000 people. Amazing night also in Porto Alegre in the Trance Republic. I think it was 2,800 people.. more or less the same.. but also crazy night.
8. I understand that you are going to be remixing a track for Judge Jules. Is there anything that you can share with us about the track ?
Heatbeat: The remix is done. To be honest.. I don't have much information about that hahaha. I know it's gonna be at Nebula Records (Nebula like our single hahaha), and it's a track of Judge Jules and Headstrong, a vocal one.
9. Your official website is very eye catching. Who designed the site for you ?
Heatbeat: Well actually it's funny cause the designer that did that job gave us a promise that he was about to do the back-end of the web page, but he never did. We are thinking about changing the site again. But yeah, we are happy with the results (I think).
10. What are your top 5 tracks at the moment ?
01 Joints Operations Center – Puzzle
02 Stuart Millar – Goodnight Sienna (Darkside Dub)
03 Solarstone – Spectrum
04 Heatbeat – Paradise garage (piano mix) (not for promotion, we love this one!)
05 Kimito Lopez – Melkweg (original mix)
11. Is there anything else that you would like to share with us ?
Heatbeat: Well we have some fresh news, our radio show is gonna start next month. I'm gonna make sure everyone will have the information about it. Our next single “Geeklove” is gonna be released on the 28th of July under “Soundpiercing.” For the fans of our track “Nebula”, we have hot news.. since we finished the follow up which is called “Paradise Garage”. Now we are working on the follow up of “Pushover”, and with the first Heatbeat vocal track (trust me.. it would not be a cheese one!!). And.. don't know if you guys visit Buenos Aires, but send us a message on our homepage. We could show you the crazy night-life in Argentina from Monday to Monday! Also try Fruity Loops, FL Studio All the way :-)
