Interview with Fred Baker    ( 28.05.2008 - 17:20 GMT UTC )

    1. I have been told that you have already released a solo album signed by PIAS Recordings and the 1st single taken from the album is called “Sunshine”, therefore, can you please give us further details about the album and also this amazing track ?

Fred Baker: Yes, for my first album, I decided to show something different to the public.. I produced a “trance tech-trance” CD because it’s my DJ style and I love to play this kind of music but I made a second CD album including my feelings and ideas about Movies.. Since my childhood, my goal was to work on movie soundtrack scores and I finally realize one of my dreams.. It contains some big tunes, playing lounge, break beat and down tempo.. and it goes to electronic sounds as you could play in a “Basic Instinct” style. I’m really proud about the 2 cd’s and I really hope they will have a big success ! "Sunshine" is one of the singles included in the album.. I think the combination between my trance style and the magic melody from Robert Miles is perfect ! But there are a lot of good tracks on this album.. to discover J

    2. Talking about the solo album, please share with us, if there is a meaning behind the name of it “Never Forget / Hollywood Fairytales” does it mean anything to You in a very special way or something ?

Fred Baker: Never forget who helped me and who betrayed me ! Never forget because I started from nothing and I think always about my origins.. This title could explain a lot a steps of my life from the happiness to the sadness, from my disappointments to my successes.. but I’m sure that some people will recognize themselves in these words “Never Forget” ! About Hollywood Fairytales, it’s very easy.. My dream was to produce Movie Soundtrack scores for Hollywood and the fairytale becomes true now !

    3. Can you please give us further details about the collaboration along the well known Italian, Robert Miles ?

Fred Baker: I proposed to Robert Miles’s company to make a collaboration with myself for PIAS recordings.. They wanted to listen my work on the project because I didn't want to make a “copy/paste” from the original.. I tried to put something new and fresh in the music, and after listening the project, they accepted to release the new version under a new name, Robert Miles was happy and for me, it was a “Sunshine” !

    4. Besides You, is there anyone related to music in Your family ?

Fred Baker: Absolutely not :) I don’t know why but I’m swimming into the music since my childhood.. At school, my friends told me already that I was a kind of “alien” because I was listening new styles of music before them !

    5. We already know that you are both, a producer, either way a Dj, and we all wondered if you consider yourself a better producer or a better Dj ?

Fred Baker: I don’t want to give preference.. I love to produce my own style (and I’m working on studio since I was 18 years old), I love to produce for other people and I love to play as DJ.. it’s a real passion since more than 20 years now.. I feel like a dinosaur :) !

    6. We know that you had several collaborations with a lot of Djs and producers worldwide, specially names like Armin van Buuren and Dj Tiesto, but how this helped you regarding your music carrier ?

Fred Baker: In the beginning of my career, I produced a lot of different projects and artist names. Since more than 10 years now, I made GrooveZone “Eisbaer” , Y-Traxx “Mystery Land”, Global Trance Mission “Dream Mission” and The Effect “Day Mission”.. I sold a lot of copies around the world but I never received any booking request as DJ but I was playing in Belgium since my 16 years ! For example, Y-Traxx was an anthem in Ibiza during some years and also featured in the “Kevin & Perry Go Large” movie soundtrack, but I never was booked in Ibiza.. That’s life !!! I’m playing as international dj since 4 years and people begin to understand now who I am. I’m sure that my productions and remixes for Tiesto, Armin and the others were something good for my promotion outside my country and I thank them a lot about that but they never helped me for my evolution as DJ.. I’m always working really hard to make my name higher in the music industry.. Never easy but I like it !

    7. You have been mixing and playing EDM in a lot of places around the world, so which in your opinion was the most important event or show that you took part of ?

Fred Baker: I had a lot of very good impressions all around the world.. One of my favorite event was surely Sensation White when I made the Anthem of the party called “Forever Friends”.. Everybody were dressed in white for this magical night and when they heard the first notes of the song, they started to scream.. When the break arrived, I don’t have any word to explain my feelings.. it was simply amazing !

    8. Analising your discography lately I have seen that you have a lot of productions such as GROOVEZONE, GLOBAL TRANCE MISSION etc, but out of all this, which one do you consider being the best, or else if You had/have other ones to speak about it ?

Fred Baker: I made big tunes, I’m still working hard every day to produce quality and I will do my best to continue On this way.. I don’t want to say that a track is better than another ONE.. Every music is the reflect FROM a part of my life and my feelings, but Eisbaer will stay in my heart.. Forever !

    9. What does 2008 prepared for you, any future upcoming projects, such as big events to attend, or anything else besides the album, that You would love to share with us now ?

Fred Baker: I really don’t know what to expect about this year 2008, I just hope that my album will have a big success and that I will continue to play a lot as DJs. I have big upcoming tunes from the album but also new projects on labels as Spinnin Records, Armada and others future releases to be finished. Some new remixes will arrive and I will work already on my new album J

    10. Anything You would like to say to the TranceSound.net members, or anyone else that is reading this exclusive interview for a change ?
