Interview with Breakfast    ( 01.07.2008 - 22:50 GMT UTC )

    1. What inspires you to make music ?

Breakfast: Everything really. Little things, but when I am in the studio it is hard to tell. I love being outdoors so I usually get inspiration from traveling and being in the wilderness.

    2. Your mother came with you to your event in New York City and she was on the dancefloor. How do you feel about that ?

Breakfast: My mother loves dance music and she comes to see me play when she can. She actually came to "Full On Ferry" last year and my father comes out to the local shows as well. I think it is great that they support me.

    3. Why did you choose the name "Breakfast" ?

Breakfast: Well, breakfast is a meal of course, but when I was younger I would not get to eat that meal cause I would be making music, so I decided to call myself 'Breakfast'. But I do love to eat breakfast, when I get the chance.

    4. Do you think your music has changed as your age, if yes: how ?

Breakfast: Of course, music changes with the times, and with age you grow maturity especially in music. You can see it in all producers and musicians progression through their careers. Look at Nico, she wrote very upbeat music for the times, and as her life went on many changes happened, so her music became abstract and dissonant, which reflects her feelings.

    5. Are you single ?

    Breakfast: Yes...

    6. Which Djs are your big examples ?

Breakfast: DJ Tiesto. No just kidding, but I do like Tiesto. Really Ferry Corsten is the biggest influence for me, he is the best DJ in the world in my opinion. Ferry has the best track selection and the flow of his sets is just amazing live. Next to that Mike Saint-Jules is another really great Dj. He knows how to capture people with his extremely on point mixing and track build up. Another couple great Djs that have captured me are Sander Kleinenberg, Jimmy Van M and Matthew Dekay.

    7. What are your goals in life ?

Breakfast: This is a tough one, I am still young you know! I would have to say I have big dreams, especially for dance music, but as well I really would like to explore different styles of music to help broaden the idea of my sound that I am searching for.

    8. Please tell me where do You see music distribution going in the next 4-5 years ?

Breakfast: Music distribution is either going to collapse and revert to the old days of record promotion and CD promos, or it is all going to go completely digital, this is probably more likely... I am just dreaming that records will come back.

    9. Which label do You have the best relationship with and why ?

Breakfast: Flashover of course, they are the best and have helped push my name as a DJ and producer. I would have to say it is more like a family.

    10. Looks like you had a few appearances with Ferry Corsten, on his US world tour during April, please tell me some more about it.

Breakfast: The US tour was amazing. The response to the tour was amazing as well. We had a really great time and the crowds were just absolutely nutty.

    11. How did You enjoy his performance with Ferry Corsten on 18th of April @ Pacha in New York City ?

Breakfast: Amazing, the Pacha gig was an experiment for me as I played a lot of things I had not played before, it was a bit more of a darker 'New York' style set.

    12. I can easily see on Your MySpace profile, that You had a gig at the famous and well known Turnmills club in London, please share further details about it.

Breakfast: Turnmills had moved to MOS (Ministry of Sound) so I was really excited to play at the legendary MOS and of course the great promoters of Turnmills threw one hell of a party. I had a great time and it was a great crowd.

    13. You have a song called "The Sunlight" is this Your preferred word to define Your music ?

Breakfast: "Sunlight" is a wonderful song but it doesn't completely describe what I am aiming for, I think it is more of a chapter in my music, and a very uplifting one at that.

    14. You have been gigging a lot lately, along Ferry Corsten, I saw a picture of You and one of the forum moderator, Zaneta Soroko, please tell us more about, how it was, places You have been, people You have seen, and other details

Breakfast: I met a lot of people on the tour! I did not know Zaneta was the forum moderator until I saw her post on TA forums and then I knew. There was definitely a lot of fans that I did not expect to be out during the tour, I was just really surprised that the music had that big of an impact.

    15. Talking about gigs, have You got any other future gigs like that in mind and who`s the main icon You are going to gig along this time ?

Breakfast: I will be traveling with Ferry Corsten of course, and we have Dance Valley coming up and two gigs in Canada with Ferry. So I think this is great cause I get to open for Ferry and lead up to his set, which in the end works out perfectly.

    16. No offence now, I`m not being funny, but they all say, Europe has EDM in their blood, but how is Your style being effected by the American style, coming from a small town in Maryland, US ?

Breakfast: The mind set is definitely different. Americans have a weird way of thinking and I never thought that in productions it would really show. I think a lot of American producers ignore a lot of current dance music and just do their own thing. The problem with Europe is that it's on the cutting edge, so you have to know what is what all the time.

    17. Speaking of production, You have made a remix of "Roadkill" from Dubfire (Deep Dish). Please share with us a few details on how it was made and what tools You have been using too.

Breakfast: This was a really cool remix for me. I had heard the track the first time I saw Dubfire in DC and it was a huge event. Ali was playing some insane tracks and then he played "Roadkill" and the place went crazy! I was a fan of the song ever since and I had to remix it, so I had to find a bootleg of the song and cut up the pieces and do my own remix, which was actually a bootleg. I sent it to Ali and he liked it a lot so Armada went on to sign it for the release on EE.

    18. Want to say anything to the TranceSound.net members or the ones reading this exclusive interview, faithfully before we wrap up ?

Breakfast: Just want to say thanks for Stefano for arranging the interview, sorry it took so long! Also if anyone has any promos send them over to me through myspace or facebook! Thanks again and cheers!
