Pacha was packed to the brim on Friday. This was my first time seeing Randy Boyer, and ATB, and I walked in not really knowing what to expect. I had a somewhat of a general idea based on some previous sets I have heard from them both, however I have never had the chance to experience them live. These guys drew a massive crowd.
Randy opened up the night with some excellent trance, and progressive tunes. At this point clubbers were still arriving. After Randy’s performance I met with him for a brief moment and complimented him on his set. He is a very nice and down to earth guy. He hung out in VIP for the rest of the night socializing with friends and fans while ATB was on.
By the time ATB got on the decks there were literally no empty spaces to be seen on the dance floor. Staring down from the balcony all I saw were hands in the air. There wasn’t a soul standing still and I can’t image that they could even if they tried. ATB played a nice assortment of fresh tracks as well as some of the older productions that he is well known for such as “Ecstasy”. Randy and ATB both put a creative twist on their sets by throwing in some alternative rock tracks by the likes of Linkin Park and Nirvana. I did a double take because I never really expected to hear these tracks at a trance party. To my surprise the crowd was so into it and nearly everyone was singing along with the words. For the length of the tracks there were people moshing, and headbanging.
The lasers and lighting were being operated by Stellar Designs and that is quite an appropriate title for them, as the lighting was in fact absolutely stellar. This was the best laser show that I have seen at Pacha thus far.
We had a visitor from Sweden with us so we wanted to make sure that he had a chance to experience everything that the club had to offer. We showed him around and brought him to the basement for bit in case he was interested in hearing some house.
After ATB’s performance Randy got back on the decks to close the night out. He kept the music going until about 5 AM until Pacha was ready to close. A very fun night indeed, and both of these guys kept me dancing from beginning to end. I am definitely looking forward to checking the both of them out again in the near future.
