Interview with Vadim Soloviev    ( 09.09.2007 - 03:40 GMT UTC )

    1. How it feels to be one of the new faces in the Russian elecronic dance scene ?

Vadim Soloviev: Well actually I am not the new face for the Russian scene. I have started producing with my side project "Sound Fiction" in the beginning of 2000 and we have achieved much success here in Russia at ones but for some reason we did not even thought about releasing our tracks worldwide those days. But later I have started producing my solo tracks and getting strong support by “big” Djs from track to track, well yeah, it is unspeakable feeling when you know that people need your music and they are waiting for some new stuff. It makes me move forward.

    2. Was there any particular reason why You named Your record "Dash" ?

Vadim Soloviev: I just wanted to describe my feelings from this track in one word. Nothing special and any intrigue.

    3. With You being a Russian artist how You feel about the Moscow trance, progressive, lounge movement getting so much attention, especially in the eastern Europe ?

Vadim Soloviev: Unfortunately while Russian producers are known in the world, not many people have ever heard of them here in Russia at the same time. Trance and progressive are not so popular here, though nowadays things are changing. Anyway, all of us here are doing our best to change such a situation. What about eastern Europe, I can not say anything. I know some really great Djs from Ukraine, Poland etc. who love Russian sound, and many Russian Djs are playing gigs in these countries constantly, but I believe it is a kind of Slavic brotherhood hehe. We all have some similar folk so our music tastes could be similar too.

    4. What can fans expect most from You in the next couple of months lets say ?

Vadim Soloviev: I have just finished some new tracks, One of them was recorded with Marcie and this vocal track is already signed to Motion Music. I think people who liked my mix of “Alive” should like this one too. I am also working on two new tracks and they should be finish very soon. What about forthcoming releases, on the 10th of September should be released David West`s “True Love” with my remix on Captured Music and on the 24th of September Tilt`s “Angry Skies” will get released on Lost Language finally with my remix. Besides I am going to work hard in Russia, compilations, album, etc… but all this stuff will be released only here at least at this moment.

    5. Whos the lady behind the record 'Alive' ?

Vadim Soloviev: This is Kate Cameron. One of the best EDM vocalists in the world. You should just check her discography. She is the one whose vocals you can hear in the tracks of Chakra and The Space Brothers and also Above and Beyond`s “Far from in love”. It was some unspeakable feeling when we worked with her, because we have grown up on the tracks with her vocals, and after that we got this possibility to work with her.. just incredible. And I should say that she is really professional.

    6. Can You sum up Your favorite songs at the moment, like a personal top10 ?

Vadim Soloviev: Yeah, it is easy.. here what I have in my player at the moment:

    1. Gareth Emery - More than anything (Gareth Emery Five AM mix)
    2. Maarten Hercules - Body fusion (original mix)
    3. Jay Lumen & Antonia Lucas - Missing (Cressida remix)
    4. Jose Amnesia & Jennifer Rene - Wouldn't change a thing (Blake Jarrell remix)
    5. Mike Shiver & Elevation - Hurricane (Dennis Sheperd remix)
    6. David West & Inkfish - Searching for substance (original mix)
    7. Tiesto & BT - Break my fall (Adam Kay & Pettigrew feat Soha remix)
    8. Solarsun - Overjoyed (Cold Blue mix)
    9. Solarstone & Alucard - Late summer fields (Deeper Sunrise mix)
    10. JPL - Colder than you (Funabashi remix)

    7. Please tell me more about the hook up with Binary Finary Recordings and what else is going to happen` next ?

Vadim Soloviev: One day we have got in contact and the guys asked me if I have some unsigned tracks for their label. I had one and it was “Dash”. So they signed it to Binary Finary Recordings and than it turned out a very nice release. Can not say at this moment what are we going to do in the future, because “Dash” seems to be my last trance track. Today I prefer more progressive sounds so maybe some remix for Binary Finary Recordings could be interesting.

    8. Do You think You need to be versatile to make records as a producer ? Like, sticking with Your own 'native' style or just try whatever comes easy ?

Vadim Soloviev: Being versatile is definitely very good for producer. But it is not easy. I am always looking for something new for my productions, new sounds and maybe even mixing styles, but when I find what I realy enjoy, I use it for quite a long time.. actually until I am getting bored of it. I also produce chill out and lounge stuff. In May 2007 it was my lounge album released called “My Tears” in Russia. It was a big surprise for my fans hehe, they were expecting for some trance and progressive. But it went very good and I have received lots of positive feedbacks. Besides I am working on some electro stuff under my “Minimoto” alias. Not so many productions, but labels are interested in them. But the main style for me is progressive trance. This is my passion. Anyway, all I want it to say is that versatile is good, any kind of experiment is good, but sometimes it is very hard to control yourself if You know what I mean. It is hard to concentrate on some certain tracks when You have lots of side projects etc. Besides it takes me a lot of time.

    9. You don`t just put Your name to one track, You also do put the hours in the studio with everyone You work with, spund engineer, vocalists, just to name a few. Was this how You planned Your career ?

Vadim Soloviev: Yes and I am really happy with it. When I have just started my first experiments with electronic music it already was my passion, and from those young days being producer became my dream. It seemed to be unreachable, but than was the first contract, the first gig and etc. Music is the drug for me. Even if I had to work as some office clerk I would came home and spent nights producing. Can`t even imagine my life without this. For the last years it was like that, because producing and Dj-ing can`t give me enough money to live and I had to work on different regular jobs. Lucky me, now my life is totally connected with music. And I am almost happy :)

    10. Well I was going to ask You, how do You find the music scene over here, I myself being from UK, it is so different to the Russian EDM scene ?

Vadim Soloviev: Both yes and no. Definetly it’s the same music and for the last years even the same Djs, but music tastes here differs from the tastes of UK clubbers. But the main difference for me it is culture. Europe have it`s own club traditions and history that influenced the scene. Russian scene, like any other scope of activity in Russia have chosen its own way. But from day to day it becomes more similar with European scene, and the big number of young Russian producers just prove it.

    11. Appreciate the interview Vadim Soloviev and I look forward to Your next and upcoming projects, anything to say to the readers of TranceSound.net ?

Vadim Soloviev: Thank you for your attention and for the support. Be happy and be positive. Hope you enjoyed my music and I will definetly do my best in the future.
