Interview with Stoneface & Terminal    ( 14.06.2007 - 16:10 GMT UTC )

    1. How long have you guys been involved in the music scene individually ?

Matthias: We started organized school parties when we were 12.

Henry: We played the music with very old cassette players, a self built mixer & some home speakers! We started to produce in 1993. We were listening to the tracks of Marusha, Westbam and RMB and we thought “Wow, that’s great music! We also want to make these kind of tunes.” So we began to produce tracks on Commodore C64, Amiga 500 & later on PC. We worked with Tracker programs like “Fasttracker” until 2001. Then we switched to “Cubase”

    2. Where did you two meet and how did you form your partnership ?

Stoneface & Terminal: We met in second grade in 1984. First we didn’t like each other but after a few years we started to hang around together and to make music.

    3. Between the both of you collaboratively how do you decide who works on the key parts when creating a track; or do you just go with the flow ?

Matthias: Mostly Henry starts to make a setup and then we play around till we have a good idea. Then we just go with the flow.

    4. What does your studio set up consist of ?

Stoneface & Terminal: We work with Cubase and a lot of software-Synthesizers. We have a lot of outboard equipment too but we don’t need it at the moment.

    5. Do you prefer production or the DJ aspect of the music industry more ?

Stoneface & Terminal: Both. We love to produce and we love to play gigs as well.

    6. What are your top 10 favorite tracks at the moment ?

    01. Kyau & Albert - 7 Skies (mixes)
    02. Ronski Speed feat Stoneface & Terminal - Soulseeker
    03. Rob Lemon - Perfect (Yvan & Dan Daniel rmx)
    04. Nitrous Oxide - Amnesia (Extended)
    05. Gareth Emery - More than anything (Stoneface & Terminal remix)
    06. Purple Moods - One night in Tokio (Above & Beyond remix)
    07. Jean Claude Ades - Some Day (Mischa Daniels Dub King mix)
    08. Super8 & Tab - Suru (Martin Roth Electrance rmx)
    09. Lange - Angel Falls (Lange's Firewall mix)
    10. Mikka Leinonen - Shadow Hearts (Original)

    7. Do you engage in other genres of music besides electronic dance music; and if so what are some of you influences ?

Matthias: Actually we prefer electronic music. We are influenced by the nineties. Our heroes were the KLF, RMB or Utah Saints. I also like Yello.

Henry: I'm a huge fan of Vince Clarke. I think he’s one of the most remarkable synthesizer freaks of the past 20 years.

    8. How did you acquire your alias names “Stoneface & Terminal” and where did the idea for this name originate from ?

Stoneface & Terminal: In 1998 we were 5 Guys and we called the project Terminal. The other 3 Friends left the Project in 2000. We gave Matthias the name ”Stoneface” because he never smiled while he was DJ’ing. Henry kept the name ”Terminal”.

    9. Which tracks from your most recent album “Wide Range” get the best crowd reactions when you are performing ?

Stoneface & Terminal: It varied from club to club, a lot of people like “Pictures” or “Soulseeker” and other people like “Endorphine” or “St Francis Foley”. Every time we play Venus, Super Nature or Sidewinder the crowd always goes crazy...

    10. When you are sitting down to create a track what sources do you use for inspiration ?

Stoneface & Terminal: Mostly we start with a rhythm. Then we build up the track around it. Sometimes we find a melody and program the rest around this melody. It depends on our mood.

    11. Your fans are out there reading this, are there any closing comments that you have for them ?

Soneface & Terminal: Don’t share music illegally. It destroys so many artists.
