| Interview with Lange ( 21.01.2007 - 21:20 GMT UTC )
1. I know You have an album on the way this autumn, what is the title of this album and who are some of the people You have worked with ?
Lange: The album is called ‘Better Late Than Never’ and is actually my first artist album after all this time! I have worked with a number of vocal writers and singers including Andy Perring (aka Pulser), Katie Marne (who co-wrote ‘Drifting Away’ too), and superb vocalists, Jennifer Karr, Sarah Ozelle and Sarah Howells.
2. We are all looking forward to your new album 'Better Late Than Never', besides the track list and other artists on the album we don't have much information regarding it. Is there anything that you would like to share with us about the album ?
Lange: OK, the album is a double album featuring a 2nd disc of some of my older material. As I am celebrating 10 years since in this the music industry this year I thought it would be good to do CD2. The album is available digitally on 5th November and on CD after Christmas on Newstate Recordings. You can visit www.langealbum.com for a special album minisite which will have much more info and audio clips (coming this week!)
3. Due to the success of your first and second singles 'Angel Falls" and "Songless" will there be a third single released from the album ?
Lange: Yes, "Songless" has only just started to get promoted and has had a great response so far! There are a couple of tracks in the frame for the follow up, but it is not decided yet.
4. What aspects of the music industry do you prefer more Djing, or production; and why ?
Lange: I like both for different reasons. Production is where I started and so is my first love. I get a lot of satisfaction from writing music. Djing is more fun; I really enjoy the travelling, meeting people and the parties!
5. What places have you travelled to on your world tour to promote the album and what territories are you do you have yet to visit to complete the tour ?
Lange: The tour kicked off in China and I have launched the album here in London and in the Ukraine since. It is early days and there is a long way to go yet with a visit to South America next weekend, Scotland and Greece the following weekend. In November I am off to Australia before heading onto a 3 day tour of Indonesia.
6. Please tell me who is the fine lady`s voice in ‘Songless', what do you like about working with female vocalists ?
Lange: The vocalist is from Los Angeles and I have never met her. In fact I know very little other than her name, Jennifer Karr, and that her voice is fantastic. The song was sent to me by a top line writer over there called Alexander. I thought it was perfect for a track on the album and got to work on it. I prefer to work this way; starting with an acappella and building a track around it.
7. Your first UK album launch party was on 12th of October, Vaccine @ Turnmills, how was the turnout for this event and can you tell us some more about your experience at the party ?
Lange: Turnmills is always a good place to play and this party was no exception. Pulser a good producer friend of mine was down to play and also Ruth Cooper who’s building quite a reputation down there for getting the floor moving! We had a bit of a celebration meal with a bunch of people and the promoters Tom and Ben and was also joined by the winner of the Lange/DJ mag competition, who then went on to travel to the Ukraine for another launch party with me early the next morning.
8. Some may say that production has been made easier due to the availability of software packages.. do you agree with that ?
Lange: Maybe a bit yes. There is definitely a great variety of software synths now with some amazing ‘out of the box’ preset sounds, but I think you still need a good level of skill to make an interesting production. The software has certainly made my life easier and I can now do things I only dreamt of before, but I would say it’s made it harder in some ways as the choices are becoming endless!
9. What new projects can we expect from Lange, is there anything that You can share with TranceSound.net members or anyone reading this interview ?
Lange: I have a couple of projects for next year in the pipeline but I’m afraid it’s too early to give information about them now. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the album! Thanks for your support, Stuart.
