1. Hi there Kara Sun, please introduce Yourself as a person, either way as an artist, for other people from TranceSound.net forum that doesn`t know You that well, thanks.
Kara Sun: Hi there, this is Kara Sun,29 years old, I am a female trance dj, living next to the dutch boarder, on the german site but feel more being dutch instead.I did many things in my live already but was always into music and nature.Music that touches me is melodical ,so that can be trance, hard rock or native music as well. I was a dancer for many years and loved my job but the music got worse and worse in my opinion..at least I already knew what I wanted to hear and dj`s didn`t play that sound anymore where I had to work.so I decided to make that my job…and here I am J!…So now I love to travel around the world,play trance,make people happy with my music on my gigs and after all also seeing some of the nature,I really love the rain forests and birds and like to help more to protect them.
2. Which is Your favourite dj or producer and what influence has Your style in Your own music ?
Kara Sun: I was always very much influenced by Rank 1, actually more Piet who is a good dj friend of mine. I love their productions and his sets as well (but now more progressive). I also love Ferry Corsten, he is amazinglly different with his electronic style and his classical bombastic productions like Gouryella, I play most of his vinyls. Further I love many productios like from Alphazone or Super 8, I love it if songs have good melodies and more melodies played together.. but didn`t listen to many good uplifting live sets recently.
3. What's Your favourite venue You have been so far, where did You played You tracks ?
Kara Sun: Best till now was in Mexico, Leon, discotheque Zixa, people were crazy about trance, specially vocal trance there and how later that party got the more friends been called and arrived to join that event J I loved that people. Malaysia was very nice as well, good atmosphere in the jb Discovery club but not fully crowded.
4. Why You didn`t choose a sport career instead of being a dj as long You have graduate a sport school ?
Kara Sun: That is not a too easy question to answer because there are several reasons for that, one of the reason is that there is a second home to me called discothek.. the other is the feeling of being someone special while working with interesting light and music, this thing to present yourself by playin wonderful sound what can make people happy and give them a nice feeling as well.. I could not miss so far, so I always wanted to be free and independent for music, with most jobs you cannot act like this.. like flying to Mexico for 3 weeks, but now I can.
5. Which is You favourite musical genre from those which You`re playing so far ?
Kara Sun: Definitlly melodical trance, doesn’t matter with or without vocal, if the melody attents me, but for sure I love good vocal trance like Oceanlab.. most of the time I sing along with them on my gigs as well ;-) and it all has to be uplifting style, I don’t like slow music too much, so I don’t play too much progressieve style, just some with cool bass loops like katana.
6. What else You like the most to do beside music ?
Kara Sun: There are 2 main things: first my boyfriend which is my big love :-) with sparse time to share.. and birds, I am crazy about many rare birds and wanna breed many endangered exotic birds in the future whenever I have time and money for that. I also work in a parrot rescue centre and help breeders all over the world to get in contact with each other.
7. What do You think about the Electronic Dance Music wave in the next few years, it will become more and more electronic then it is so far ?
Kara Sun: Mh.. I am not sure about it, there will always be more new influences, and than you have like 20 types of trance maybe after all.. ? But I guess it will always go back a little to the basics. It´s like with rock music, many people hang on to the music they grew up with.. and there always have to be radio versions as well.
8. In Your opinion.. is there an advantage of being a girl to become a Dj ? or the chances are equals ?
Kara Sun: I think the main thing is about a production, since most female Dj’s cannot produce I would agree that it is easier for a man with a good production to get booked. At this moment there are many woman working as a Dj all over the world with different success, what helps most is indeed your look than and a good manager, if you put yourself much enthusiasm and work behind it than that woman might be easier successfully than a man with a good production..
9. Where do You want to spend more of Your free and spare time during an holiday ?
Kara Sun: Rain forest !!! Besides that I love beaches and all kind of interesting wildlife areas, I don`t want to relax first, but rather live in my free time outside my home base.. If I could finally take my lover with me there it would be a dream coming true :)
10. Is there something on this Earth to make You change Your mind regarding music ?
Kara Sun: Mh.. I could answear this in 2 ways.. First of all money.. I guess to play house as well because everyone seems to want that.. and second.. If I am not into a certain style I might get into it because of something that surrounds the situation is is been played.. like many songs I hate been sing and played by my boyfriends band reload.. I like after all.
11. How did You feel when You knew that You will play 3 hours, for Dj Tiesto warm up in Ecuador on 18th January, this month ? Please describe that feeling in a few words :)
Kara Sun: OK.. I didn t knew it would be 3 hours but even better :) and it is on 9th of February instead :) I was informed about that a while ago and loved that idea.. but we heard nothing back instead.. than last week we got the confirmation and I felt like jumpin to the ceiling (but it is very high in my apartment ;-) ) I immidentlly called my manager Anton to ask if it is really confirmed now and after that smiled a whole day, Dj Tiesto, the people and the land, Hell yes.. I wanna go there :)
12. Please say a few words for the TranceSound.net forum female Djs and producers that would like to make their own music.
Kara Sun: Ok.. I would advice to be open for different music styles and learn to produce if your aim is to live from and with music. Be open for more styles and new technics and try to bring over your feeling (what should be positive) to the crowd to let them enjoy the party. I myself focussed on uplifting trance because that´s coming from my heart, but that I not giving me all chances. Besides that I think Djs are the ones who are entertaining the people most.. so to get dancers or MCs ok, but why is the whole world in love with Dj Tiesto ? Because he entertains you all, he is smiling like a shy boy, still appreaciating every single person coming to his show and enjoying his sound, I have much respect for this!
