Interview with Kamil Polner    ( 10.01.2007 - 17:20 GMT UTC )

    1. At what age did you take an interest to producing ?

Kamil Polner: I started to play the piano when I was 10 years old. I wanted to move forward and started to use a synthesizer and computer at 15 years of age. The entire time I had the feeling to produce something so at that time I made something that is known today as energy trance music. Funny thing about this is that I did not know trance before 1995.

    2. What made you take an interest in the Trance and EDM genre ?

Kamil Polner: Its very simple because all I did and continue to do is coming from inside (Putting positive energy into the music) and I want to share it with people.

    3. Was there a particular track that first introduced you to this genre? If so, which track was it ?

Kamil Polner: There have been many, because I was DJ before and I played disco style. Hah...maybe Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears? :) 2unlimited also made a big influence.

    4. Who showed you the ropes of production, did you attend any training or did you learn on your own ?

Kamil Polner: The good thing is that I have attended a basic music school, which I mentioned earlier (playing the piano) but no ones helps me with production. I did everything on my own. My father helped me a little with mastering.

    5. How long were you producing until you created a track that was worthy of a release ?

Kamil Polner: At least 5 years. I can remember the tracks I made before (very very good, and people liked it) but I was not satisfied. Very shortly after that I made a track that was worth releasing.

    6. Some of your tracks, like Sky Universe and Heart of Sun took more than a year to be released. Why the long delay ?

Kamil Polner: I am still wondering why. We sent the tracks to many labels, and all of them had the same answer. "Its nice, but we can not release it" I was thinking my music was not good then. It's impossible for me to explain me this situation, but when Armin played the track “Heart of Sun” everything changed. Maybe its about the right timing, so the tracks were waiting for the right time.

    7. Have you ever worked with a vocalist or do you have plan to? If so, can you mention any names ?

Kamil Polner: Yes, I am working with Michelle Richer and I like her voice very much. She is amazing!!! And an amazing person also :) She has sung for ATB. Her qualities are used for ATB albums as well.

    8. You are known more as a producer than a DJ. Do you plan to concentrate on DJing more in the future ?

Kamil Polner: I am concentrating on both things. Both things give me a lot of energy.

    9. After the success of Distant Planet, there haven't been any further Alliance releases; do you have plans on working with Mark Hoogkamer again in the future ?

Kamil Polner: It is possible, but I have so much work at the moment. I do not know really.... who knows.... it’s possible.

    10. What equipments does your studio set up consist of ?

Kamil Polner: The basics are a computer with Midi keyboard, Midi controller, and a pair of studio monitor speakers. For example Heart of Sun was made only on PC software without any good speakers or addition hardware or synths.

    11. How would you describe the music of Kamil Polner ?

Kamil Polner: Energy, driving, uplifting happy and positive melodic...I am right? :) Simply listen to Soul Cure and I think you will agree.

    12. In what ways do you feel your productions differ from other trance producers ?

Kamil Polner: I think it is better to ask what I think is unique. Not something usual. I do not know how to explain the productions of other producers but maybe I am putting a lot of positive energy from me to my music...that is the difference. I would like to send my positive energy through music to people and share this with them.

    13. Do you think having a sound that is commercial is important in today's trance scene, in as far as to attract a wider audience, or would you rather experiment to create a unique sound ?

Kamil Polner: That’s though one...sometimes I am thinking about making something commercial. It is more about what I am feeling and what I want to make. I am making the music that is inside my heart. Sometimes it sounds more commercial like the track Equinox (Featuring Michelle Richer) and sometimes it is more experimental.

    14. You seem to borrow nature and environmental themes for your track names. Are you an environmentalist as well ?

Kamil Polner: I would say more yes then no :) It depends how exactly you would define environmental. Natural things are better then synthetic.

    15. Congratulations on Soul Cure being named the Future Favorite on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance Episode 272. Can you provide any information on some of your forthcoming releases ?

Kamil Polner: Of course, the track “C2” will be released in March this year on vinyl. Then to follow “Equinox” and a few more new tracks are coming. I would also like to mention the track Soul Cure is on Armin’s CD Compilation 2007. Big thanks from me to the people who voted for this track. I also want to say thank you for this interview, and I wish you all the best in 2007!!! Best Regards. Kamil Polner
