| Interview with Gabriel Setis ( 18.08.2007 - 11:40 GMT UTC )
1. What is the range of genres which you like to spin ?
Gabriel Setis: Trance, Tech, House (Tech/Trance), Progressive (Trance/House/Tech)
2. I know that you are invloved and you had start an own production ? At what level is it and can you tell us more about it ?
Gabriel Setis: My productions are as always missing something that would make it great. Alone, I may not acheive the level of producing I would like to see, so I am currently seeking a partner in the production realm. However, I do have 2 productions (Trance & Borderline Hard Trance), which I plan to finish by myself, to be sent to record labels in the near future. I do one day see myself producing epic & globally played trance tracks, I believe there isn't enough trance music available now days, and we should all contribute in keeping trance alive.
3. As far as i know (and many people knows) you are playing trance... What does trance means for you ?
Gabriel Setis: When I listen to a trance tune, I am in it, I am wrapped around it and feeling my way around. There is so much life and unseen energy put into almost every popular track you hear. Trance for me, is the great escape into another realm, we all meet there sooner or later, I just prefer to get there right now. Anything that sends you on a journey away from life just for a few moments, can't be bad. Trance is the most addicting element in my life. If air were addictive, Trance would be first in line.
4. What are your plans for the future regarding Dj-ing and producing aswell ?
Gabriel Setis: I will be seeking live entertaining soon (playing in clubs, and events), and even though I know that having productions released, makes things easier for recognition, I will continue forward mixing as my first priority, and producing as my second priority, regardless of common prerequisites. In regards to future productions, I would really like to have some tracks released to labels, but I always compare my work to other great artists, to be sure that if I do make a release, that it will always be the best track I've ever made.
5. With what Djs and producers would you like to cooperate into the future ?
Gabriel Setis: Producers: Alaskan Dreamer, Sonicvibe, Aurosonic, Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, George Acosta, ATB, Airbase, M.I.D.O.R., Digital Nature, Sean Tyas, John O'Callaghan, Mannuel Le Saux, Octagen, Cressidia, Armalite, Above & Beyond, Menno de Jong... A large unsorted list would go here, but you can see which style of music I like just from the list above... DJs: Same as above, they are all excellent DJs as well as producers.
6. Which was the greatest thing which happened to you in your Dj career ?
Gabriel Setis: Well I don't exactly have a career in djing yet, but the greatest thing that has happened to me since becoming a dj, would be the people I've met in the chat rooms, listeners, producers, djs, as well as owners of stations who have seen some kind of potential to the style & generation of the music I mix to give me residency on their stations. But most of all the ultimate greatest thing is transitional mashups. I get goosebumps when I can make 2 songs mix into one, during a transition. Harmonic transitioning is so beautiful, it gives me a rush every time I hear it.
7. Which is your favourite location to be and where would you like to spin in the future ?
Gabriel Setis: I haven't actually done any club gigs yet, so my area of favorite won't be known for many years to come. However, I see myself in parts of Europe, Ibiza, Finland, and major cities in the US like Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. I would love to mix in clubs in Amsterdam, and Ibiza, it would be a dream.
8. Can you tell us which radio stations you are a resident Dj on ?
Gabriel Setis: Synergetic Sessions - 2 Hours live on SenseGenerate.FM (Tuesdays Weekly @ 2 PM CST), Sunrise Sessions - 2 hours live on Party107.com (Wednesdays Weekly @ 9 PM CST), Trance Euphoria - 2 hours live on AfterHoursDJs.org (I try to mix on Saturdays or Sundays in the mid day time), Dance Node Radio - Recorded bi-weekly show - 1 Hour. SGFM, Party107 air Dance Node Radio. Visit their sites for details.
9. Who was the main factor or the main person who initiate you into Dj-ing ?
Gabriel Setis: Mostly, it was my friend Dj Javs (John), a Dj who recently was on Liquid.FM (now on Element5.fm), he taught me just about everything involving what to do and not to do in certain situations during mixing. I owe him almost everything I have built today in mixing. The most important thing I learned from him, is to develop your own style of mixing.
10. What are your advices for the upcomming Djs and producers ?
Gabriel Setis: As an upcoming dj & producer myself, the only advice I can give is to never give up on your dreams, stay focused. Don't let people discourage you, just because they know the game. Believe in yourself, it's all you need.
