Interview with Cosmic Gate    ( 11.07.2007 - 17:30 GMT UTC )

    1. You guys have been in this scene for quite a long time; what qualities do you feel a performer must posses in order to have longevity in this scene ?

Cosmic Gate: Actually we think it is more other peoples job to make their mind up about us, we do not like talking about us too much… the only thing we can say here is, that we always try to give our best, and that we really like electronic music, and we are just happy that our youth time hobbies music and djing are our profession now for quiet a while already… But we think, the most important things are to be yourself and always try to have a progression in your sound.

    2. What artists do you feel are the pioneers of trance music ?

    Cosmic Gate: Eye q records

    3. You have a nice arrangement of producers who are featured on your new album. How did you go about selecting the tracks ?

Cosmic Gate: All of the tracks on our album “Earth Mover” are produced by us, the difference to our first albums is, that we have been working together with some song writers and singers this time. This was a new and good experience for us that we will continue on our next artist album that we just started working on...

    4. What is your personal favorite song on the album ?

Cosmic Gate: This can be changing from day to day, depending on moods, the weather, the sound system e.o. Maybe for the vocal side it is "Should Have Known", and for the club side it is our current single "Analog Feel" and also “Element of Life”.

    5. ”A mile in my shoes” a track produced with Sir Adrian seems to be receiving a lot of airplay recently. How do you go about locating talent? Is there something in specific that you look for ?

Cosmic Gate: We try to be very open for different styles of singers and voices, finally it is all about the singer and us to have the same visions about a song. The voice and the words just have to fit our music to reach our expectations...

    6. How do you like working with Sir Adrian ?

Cosmic Gate: He is actually one half of a well know Dutch songwriter duo, and for “Mile in my Shoes” he decided to sing himself, as far as we know for the first time... We send him the instrumental demo track and together with his partner Raz, he wrote and recorded the vocals, send them back to us, and we finished the production in our studio to the version you hear on the album now. It was a big pleasure to work with these guys, as they are very professional but also incredible nice guys, that also been responsible for “A Day That Fades”, and surely some more songs in the future...

    7. In terms of the guest producers featured on the album you selected some big names, some try to avoid using so many big names when it comes to the budgeting on an album. Is there any particular reason you chose to do it this way ?

Cosmic Gate: We have some well known, and also less well known singers on the album, but what counts for us is the result, and not the budget finally.

    8. What has been the hardest part of arriving at this point in your career and all of your accomplishments ?

Cosmic Gate: Being in the music scene always seems to be fun only, but it is a very hard business! With the success the pressure begins and the people expect more and more. The hardest part is to feel free and to do your own thing. But as long as we have fun with what we do, we gonna continue with our visions about Cosmic Gate, and hope that we have some more success waiting in the future...

    9. How do you feel about the trance scene in Germany at the moment; and is there anything that you wish were different ?

Cosmic Gate: The trance scene in Germany is really, really small at the moment. Most people don’t believe it, because it was so big here back in the days. But it is always the same, something is getting so big, that you get an overkill and then it nearly disappears. That is what happened a few years ago here in Germany. But now the scene slowly rebuilds itself and starts to grow again. We hope that more young producers feel the atmosphere and energy of trance music and help to get it back here.

    10. How do you feel about the success of your recent gig at Webster Hall, New York ?

Cosmic Gate: We enjoyed our gig at the Webster Hall really a lot! The people were following us from proggy sound to trance to techy sound and back, for us it was really a great night! We hope to be back in NY soon, these guys there know how to party!

    11. You closed out your set that night with a few classics; what inspired you to select "Dj Tiesto – Urban train (Cosmic Gate remix)" as one of the closing tracks for the evening ?

Cosmic Gate: This is always a decision of the moment, we just felt that this was be a good idea as one of the last tracks, and it seemed our feeling was right...

    12. Can we look forward to any new Cosmic Gate video’s coming soon ?

Cosmic Gate: Unfortunately the trance market is so small, that there is nearly no more budgets for videos, even releasing a CD means loosing money for most artists... cause of that, most tracks these days only be available as downloads. If you maybe can not find our tracks in your record store, go to beatport.com, this is one of the best stores for legal electronic music downloads there is...
