Interview with Tenishia Malta Awards feature

Interview with TenishiaJoven Grech & Gyprian Cassar better known as the trance-tastic duo of Tenisha have recently made history by becoming the first artists from Malta to reach the DJ MAG Top 100. Together they have been winning awards since 2005, such as “Best Newcomer” and “Best Live Performance” given at the Malta Music Awards. With that in mind, we can literally keep supporting them in order to be one of the biggest Maltese duo band, something that we can easily relate to, loving their music, their productions and not only, but loving them as they are, Tenishia!

TS: Congratulations on reaching the DJ MAG TOP 100 polls! Plenty of emotions flowing around I am sure of. Please share your thoughts on such a huge achievement!

G&C: Getting into the DJ MAG was a huge achievement because we are the first to do it from Malta, so everyone from Malta is very proud of us. It’s really good to be with the top 100 DJs in the world and I would like to thank all those who have voted for us and supported us throughout the year.

TS: Following the news, you will be holding a celebration party in correlation to this year’s Malta Music Awards, held on the 26th of this month. What can your home supporters and fans expect from this event and where can they get access to ticket information?

G&C: Here in Malta we have a huge following so it’s what our fans what and we give our own Tenishia event. Having a huge following here in Malta, we are closing off this year’s addition of the Malta Music Awards with a special set and will also include Susana Lise. Obviously we are performing our own production with her and also the remix of “Dark Side of the Moon”. After the Malta Music Awards we will be heading to Sky Club which is Malta’s biggest indoor club to celebrate our placing in the DJ MAG TOP 100. As I’ve said before, all of our fans here are very proud that we’ve made into the Top 100 as it is the first time that a dj in Malta has made it to this list. TS: Would you say that your productions represent the sound of Malta? And does the crowd vibe differ between your country and other parts of the globe?

G&C: I cannot say that the sounds reflect the sounds of Malta but I can say that the locals have inspired us to go into the studio and build our first tracks. The difference between Malta and other countries, as far as the crowd, I think very country is pretty different when it comes to crowd and music tastes. But here in Malta they like a lot of progressive trance to which we do play a lot.

Interview with Tenishia

TS: Your recent remix of Ernesto vs. Bastian feat. Susana’s “Dark Side of the Moon” has reached #4 in Trackitdown’s Top 100 Trance Tracks…yet again another great achievement. Were you two fans of the original track and wanted to add your own interpretation or was it just for fun?

G&C: I think it actually got down to #2 on Trackitdown and yes we were fans of this track and when Ernesto asked us to remix it we said yes. It is a big track and we really wanted to put our hands on it.

TS: How did the name Tenshia become to represent Grech & Cassar? Any significant meaning?

G&C: (laughs) Everybody asks this question, where did the name Tenishia come from. It’s just a name we thought was catchy and we both agreed to use it on our project.

TS: Has electronic music been apart of Malta’s musical history or were you two inspired to make it apart of your country?

G&C: Actually Malta had a big scene in the 90’s with a lot of events happening around, legal and illegal. These scenes helped to inspire us into the whole music scene. OK we are the most successful producers from Malta but the scenes themselves made us who we are.

TS: Will there be a Tenishia album some time in the near future?

G&C: Yes, we’ve already started working on our album which we tend to release next year and maybe some before on Armada Records.

Interview with Tenishia

TS: Personally, how do you feel about the transitions EDM has taken and where do you see it progressing?

G&C: This is a hard question to answer because you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings because everyone has different tastes. If I say ‘trance’ some people might say ‘hey I like uplifting trance’ but I like progressive trance. It’s a little bit of a weird question to answer but we do think that EDM is coming more together now: house, trance, techno and we think it’s progressing to a better direction. It’s bigger than ever before.

TS: Since 2011 is coming to a close, could you highlight some of your favorite moments and what are you most looking forward to in 2012?

G&C: 2011 has been really good to us I must say. I can mention the gig in Poland, entrancing into 2011 was a pretty huge gig and also the ASOT 500. Mentioning 2012 as we said before we’re doing the album and finishing that and letting everyone hear it.

TS: Thank you for taking the time to be apart of this interview. Is there anything else that you would like to share with your readers here at TranceSound.net?

G&C: You are welcome actually and thank you for hosting us on your website. To all those listening to the interview, keep following us on facebook.com/tenishia and to our official website tenishia.com Big things are coming up your way in 2012.
