Interview with Lisa Lashes

Lisa LashesThis is an exclusive interview which goes straight into my top 10! Overall during this interview I wanted to show what I’ve always known about Lisa, an innovative artist and flexible woman with a great attitude towards the changing times of EDM (Electronic Dance Music)

Most of you know Lisa as the Worlds Number 1 Female DJ and for her outstanding achievements to date. I hope that by reading this interview you’ll get a whole new perspective on why she’s still the Queen of the music we all love the most. Getting a sense of her background, you’ll easily realise why she does what she does and why she is so good at it. With a full reassurance, I do know that this is not the end, this is just the beginning of a new chapter. No wonder she “Lashed” so many and still does it in her own original and unique way.

1. I always wanted to know how did you actually come to be known as Lisa Lashes ?

Lisa Lashes: I Have extremely long eyelashes so my name from friends when I was at school was “Lashes”..

2. How do you describe your own sound ? And, how does it compare to what you are already known and loved for ?

Lisa Lashes: I play a mixture of chunky Trance to Tech Trance. Whatever style of music I play its still very energetic and fun and makes you want to dance.

3. From a more professional perspective, releasing many tracks on Tidy Trax in early 2000 to Lashed Music, Discover Dark, Musical Madness, Reset Records and High Contrast lately, this is quiet a journey I may. What prompted you to change your musical adventure to a more less harder approach ?

Lisa Lashes: I think everyone personally changes their music preferences over the years and that’s no exception for DJ’s. I don’t listen to the same music I listened to 10 years ago and with a lot of the music styles cross pollinating, DJ’s can play a mixture of styles in their sets depending where there playing and to which crowd.

4. Covering a whole aspect of EDM (Electronic Dance Music) spectrum from Tidy to Trance, Progressive Trance, Breaks, Hard dance and Hard house, I will try to focus on your more Trancy vibe of course. Is this your new way of testing waters or will be a permanent move ?

Lisa Lashes: Over the last 2 years I have been making more of the Techy Trance tunes so its not been an overnight decision. My DJ sets can go from finishing off from the last DJ with a 134bpm Trance vibe all the way up to End of the night Chunky Trance up to 138BPM. I am hoping that people will come and see me DJ at a club as they have a great night and not because I will be playing a certain style of music.

5. With your new sound being more diverse than the old one, even though you still worked in the sound as much as you can for the fans that still ride for that specific one, don’t you think that you will be missed ?

Lisa Lashes: All my fans have loved my new style of music so I think it’s a change for the better and I am trying to keep things fresh and new as there’s some great music out there.

6. Conquering and lashing several nations and major clubs in China, Canada, United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan I am wondering who’s going to be ‘lashed’ next ?

Lisa Lashes: We have a huge Lashed Party in Holland in 2011 with Richard durrand, Ronald van Gelderen, Artento Divini and many more and I am also doing parties this month in Hawaii and Canada as well as Creamfields in the U.K. Next month sees me head to South Africa as well as a few dates around the U.K and the Planet love Ireland festival in Belfast, N.Ireland. I’m also back over in Australia & New Zealand in November. Phew its hard to keep up with it all, please keep an eye on my website for forthcoming dates..

7. Are there any specific tracks in terms of original own productions and remixes or else other works to look out for from you lately ?

Lisa Lashes: I have got a few tunes in the Beatport Trance chart. “Numero Uno” on Discover Dark, “Ella’s Theme” on Lashed music and “Distant Drummers” which are out right now. Another tune called “The Bends” will be out of Discover dark label after the summer and another Lashed music release in September featuring “Escapes” and “Mandalla”.

8. Your new show on Afterhours FM. Please elaborate further details for us on this one

Lisa Lashes: It’s an online radio show that is aired through the internet with the main listeners coming from North America which I do monthly after Sean Tyas’s Tytaninium Sessions. I also have a monthly 2FM radio show, which is on the main station in Ireland following Dave Clarke’s show. I am also on the 17th episode of mu podcast which is available on iTunes or downloadable on my website Djlisalashes.com

9. Recently you were releasing your long awaited new release “Numero Uno”. Were you happy with that record’s overall commercial performance, since it’s being released exclusively on Beatport ?

Lisa Lashes: I was ecstatic with the track as all 3 mixes went into the top 100 Beatport Trance chart with the Ummet Ozcan mix reaching its peak at number 6 in the chart.

10. With some great remixes on “Numero Uno” from the ones listed above, the likes of Ummet Ozcan and Indecent Noise, are there any collaborations in the making with any of these two perhaps ?

Lisa Lashes: I have not got anything planned with Ummet or Indecent Noise but I have a new remix coming out on High contrast with Artento Divini and hopefully two remixes from two tracks I have recently finished which I am hoping for a Sean Tyas and John O’Callaghan mix. Fingers crossed.

11. Is there anything else that you would like to point out at this time ?

Lisa Lashes: It’s that time of the year where DJ is compiling the Top 100 DJ’s as voted independently by true fans. It would be great if you like what I do and think I am worthy of a vote to get me into the latest poll. Go to DJ Mag and thank you in advance for you vote.

Hope you enjoy my mix. Lisa x
