Markus Schulz presents Do You Dream The Remixes on Armada MusicMarkus Schulz has been known to us being one of the most prolific image within the global EMI (Electronic Music Industry) for so many years, but nowadays it’s more of a true statement than ever. Being ranked #8 according to the most prestigious Dj Magazine. After a very good career as a Dj, producer and remixer that began in 1993, the German native has garnered a nationwide fan base boosted by his weekly “Global Dj Broadcast” radio show aired online on DI FM, several cutting edge videos, hectic touring and appearances on most major festivals and venues around the world including Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, Monster Massive, Together As One, Ultra Music Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event, Nature One, Dance Valley, Love Parade, Global Gathering, Trance Energy, A State of Trance, just to name a few. With six mix compilations and three artist albums under his belt and also being a part of all these major events, this is an indication for a successful career that Markus won’t be letting his fame go to waste.

The previous volume of “Do You Dream,” actually the original version may not be the most wanted album from Markus that EDM scene has ever seen, but this time for sure, this new version of it can outweigh vast amount of what’s missing from it. Though his new mix compilation Markus gained notable buzz through the globally reinvented EDM scene. He also earned notoriety for releasing numerous remixes, and his latest effort, “Do You Dream – The Remixes” is a continuation of his legacy, but this he is choosing who to remix his own music.

At its best, “Do You Dream – The Remixes” conveys how Markus’ charismatic talents have evolved through his records. Establishing chemistry with producers Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate, Phynn, Jochen Miller, Mike Foyle, Tenishia, Super8 & Tab, Karanda, Carlo Resort, Moonbeam, Barnes & Heatcliff, Mr Pit, Tucandeo or else DNS Project he uses a set of melodic, lively sound-beds to boast his skills and chronicle his ascension to the limelight.

From the very beginning, the stellar “Apha State” sees Mike Foyle giving a more euphoric vibe to the track, a proper intro, a more danceable mood with his arpeggio style and “Away” weathers a more progressive style, something that we can easily relate to all Cosmic Gate’s latest releases. With a deeper approach to Sir Adrian’s voice, this track builds up the sound that Cosmic Gate are known for. Increasing the tempo, Phynn’s remix on “Rain” (original track being produced in Palms Hotel’s studio in Las Vegas, where rain it’s missing) quickly transitions into the more passionate clubbing fever. Much like his fellow Dutch Dj and producer Finne Jager aka Phynn, Jochen Miller takes “Dark Heart Waiting” to a whole different level, showcasing Khaz’s vocals into a memorable remix, creating an acapella sound-a-like of the track, reaching a moment when Khaz uses his lyrical abilities to tell the story of a man who goes from being alone to asking for forgiveness. Carlo Resoort’s remix on “Not The Same” is a new concept, consisting of all original beats and rhymes, but a more aggressive way with louder drums.

Who else can be given the chance remixing “Do You Dream,” better than Ferry Corsten ? What we were expecting it’s been delivered indeed. Ferry’s approach to the album’s topic with his own ability to create a master piece – the benefits of having that special “Midas’ touch,” giving that late ’90s effect. This helped him creating an innovative rework of a track that made history already, highlighting a new sound and a chorus to verses about valuing Markus’ question in his own way – “Do You Dream?”. The remix on “Last Man Standing” by Karanda showcase their signature bravado and punchlines, concentrating on Khaz’s voice being merged with an electronic piano that’s taking over. Giving a more Electro-Breaks vibe as a whole, the entire track it’s more danceable than the original. On the other hand, the Russian brothers, Pavel and Vitaliy Khvaleyev aka Moonbeam are taking “Surreal” to a deeper Progressive-Electro-Minimal version, sequenced in a manner that directly sees the difference. Paying more attention to Ana Criada’s voice along with some electronic pads makes this track something special in it’s own way.

Up next we are having a Big Room remix on “Unsaid,” a track made with Susana. An upbeat track that gives that “Bigger Room” vibe, being an unique audio equation for the Vocal Trance lovers out there! We are already half way through and we can easily sense that special Progressive sound-a-like, the Tenishia sound on “Lifted.” A track that literally describes Joven and Ciprian’s sound, playing along with Angelique Bergere’s voice, looping over and over her voice. The special element these guys loves using the most, the electronic piano vs cold piano and the electronic guitar in the background creates an unique sound that blends with the original, quickly transitions into the passionate sound. However, as fans can deduce from the title, it’s clear that the track is lifting the listeners to a higher level. Finnish duo band Super8 & Tab creates a remix on “Perception,” a track that listeners can hear Justine Suissa’s voice from the very beginning. By the middle of the track, there’s this momentum where the electronic piano vs Justine’s voice is creating the feeling that you don’t what this to end – very soon at least. This is for the Vocal Trance lovers, the ones that relates female vocals to that special angelic sound. Barnes & Heatcliff remix on “The New World” are taking the story further, ensuring that this is entirely their own version of the track, being a solid, introspective effort.

Markus Schulz’s own club remix on “Lightwave” it’s increasing the tempo, with a a DnB version. A track featuring Angelique Bergere’s vocals is yet another perspective on Markus’ reinvention of his own sound. Mr. Pit’s remix on “65.4Hz” aka The Scale of C (for music minded people) has a catchy hook and a heavy backdrop. Fortunately, this song is still enjoyable enough to avoid the skip button. In “What Could Have Been,” Tucadeo’s version seem to continue the catchy beat, but with a more mellow approach which is more acceptable, a moment where the melodic line is yet again defined. The deluxe remix of DNS Project on “Goodbye,” punctuate a solid debut in Markus’ discography – a track made with Max Graham feat. Jessica Riddle – that shows enough skill and personality to keep listeners stay tuned, a pure higher expectations.

It’s going to be a pleasure listening the album, but Markus’ final album, at least the remixed one, has finally truly arrived, and he’s got the goods to stay around for a while. Injecting enough personality in this album, both the original and remixed one, proves yet again that Markus it’s here to stay. With features being held down solely by producers and remixers, this album is a solid, impressive effort and highlights that even the biggest names within EDM can find themselves in that situation feeling that something it’s missing in their albums, even thou album is released, there’s always time for improvements and “the remixed” version it’s what was missing from “Do You Dream” legacy.
