Gareth Emery presents Northern Lights re-lit album released on Garuda Music
Same ambitious producer and label owner is bringing you yet another remixed album of his last year’s instalment, one of the most listened album of 2010, “Northern Lights” released on his own imprint, Garuda Music. This time around, Gareth Emery is trying to sum up the efforts of years worth of talented musicians releasing 10-plus tracks in the same window of time to come up with something different than what was the original album, therefore, here’s “Northern Lights Re-Lit” for you.
With remixes from Ashley Wallbridge, Arty, Hardwell, Beltek, John O’Callaghan, Super8 & Tab, Dennis Sheperd, Jordan Suckley, Langers, Daniel Kandi, Giuseppe Ottaviani, and Jorn van Devyhoven in this order, this new album has something unique and memorable. Their cutting edge music style made the album a must have for 2011. All the acts mentioned earlier, veterans or aspiring producers, are most likely attempting to capture the ‘northern light’ fever and make their own remix of it. On the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) side most attempts are being captured already with the instalment of this new remixed album.
This new material is a 12 tracks album, where numerous artists add to their discography another chapter, a whole new transition of being members of the huge Garuda family. Over the course of the album, many of these beats are what makes Garuda a distinctive label music in its on way.
Right from the beginning, it’s evident Ashley Wallbridge’s music style. The remix on “Arrival”, a track made by Gareth along Brute Force. The intro takes you into a different world, the unknown. Leaves you in there for a short while and then pulls you back out, back on track into a danceable moods, something that Ashley is really well known for. Rapidly synchronising over Ashley’s piercing piano keys and airtight drums and echoed pads, the Russian upcoming superstar, also “the man of the moment” as Allan McGrath used to call him, turns into your favourite futuristic blend of House, Electro and modern Trance with his remix on “El Segundo.” This same raw energy continues, where Hardwell’s remix on “Stars” has Gareth and his German counterpart Jerome Isma-AE, exchanging melodic lines on a more serious note, emerging the Progressive style taking over. With his Electro-Prog style, Hardwell initiates the next track easily, where Beltek’s remix on “Full Tilt” is yet another track to keep you dancing, giving you the vibe you need to keep yourself going. Keeping the boredom feeling to a minimum, Beltek taps Gareth’s track that can only be appropriately described as his own Techno approach added to the album. On the other hand John O’Callaghan’s remix on “Too Dark Tonight,” is simple a good addition to the album. This track is made by Gareth Emery in collaboration with his sister, Roxanne Emery, which is a great vocal based tune. Here Subculture’s founder John O’Callaghan laces Roxanne’s voice with a menacing melody that becomes easily captivating under her lyrics. While the abundance of brazen lyricism fits right into Gareth’s usual scheme, the heart of the listener is propelled by a handful of Trancy elements that reveal a more introspective remix of “Citadel,” a remix by Finnish duo, Super8 & Tab, which leads the melodic line to sound more or less the same as their ultimate track “Empire” along Jan Burton released late last year. So whoever likes “Empire” is going to love this track in particular as well. And this is a fact.

So far so good, we have already reached the 7th track of the album, therefore we are half way through, so we should continue with Dennis Sheperd’s remix on “I Will Be The Same,” along female vocalist Emma Hewitt. Here the German born Dj and producer Dennis Sheperd, is showcasing her angelic voice, looping over her undeniable unique voice, that shines a blinding light on several topics, but the most important one without a doubt, is has to be love again. From an artistic point of view, the integrity of Jordan Suckley’s remix on “Global,” is a noticeable true statement that Electro always blends with the kinky and dirty, filthy, grimy Tech-House that makes you wanna dance. And yes that’s true indeed. Here Jordan gives you a bit of ‘momento de respiro” but then takes you all over again with his blending style. The next remix is coming from Langers, remix on “Into The Light.” This is a concept record to praise the listeners, a performance over Gareth’s layered production versus Mark’s voice revealing a deep texture and rhythm. The beat from Daniel Kandi on “Fight The Sunrise” is decent enough. Upbeat and playful, the remix touches more on Lucy Saunders’ voice, a reference to his remixing skills, especially when it comes to vocal tracks, to help build his celebratory status. The melodic line, rolling piano chords and the rhyme pattern mixes really nice together. I can easily say this is just another top major track from them two, same as the old time “Sanctuary,” a track that we all love them for. Speaking about it, Giuseppe Ottaviani’s remix on “Sanctuary” is a very powerful vibe, delivering sounds rushed over the track’s great melody. This says again the two have a really good chemistry, therefore the piano sounds fits perfectly in here, making it one of the most admirable project between them two. The last remix of the album is coming from Jorn van Devynhoven, a remix on “All Is Now,” a track made by Gareth Emery featuring Activa.
Front to back, “Northern Lights Re-Lit” provides the listener with meticulous memoirs from an earlier album that arguably has yet to reach its peak. Gareth knew that there’s something missing, so he decided that a follow up album would be dubbed “Re-Lit.” Double that with a solid cast of guest appearances, featuring a good number of producers it’s clear to see why this album deserves being mentioned. It’s a remix album that packs in great beats and renowned producers for sure.
