Everything But The Girl - Missing (Greg Downey remix)
If there’s one thing Irish born Greg Downey succeeds at, it’s his remixing performances throughout the times. However, it took him a while to showcase his musically ability, to finalize a good remix of “Missing,” a pure creation, a track that almost every single person knows it, giving the listener goose bumps all over the body while playing it. This track, was chanted by people ever since it was released, mostly the ones that used to love Tracey Thorn’s voice and Ben Watt’s greatest musical experience, unique lyrics that still seemed to ring through the air after the track was released for so long. Released on One More Tune (OMT) label, a Warner Music Group (WMG) dance label, this time again, same as they did with Fedde Le Grand’s remix, a massive success, One More Tune (OMT) are pleased to announce that Greg Downey’s remix will be joining the single package for “Missing”.
This offering from Greg is perhaps his most wanted remix to date. While Greg occasionally plays with Tracey’s voice, this time around his focus is more direct, adding that special “Greg’s Progressive Trancy style” as we all know him for, loops and haunting vocal sample, show how Greg acclimates himself musically to the tone of his production, flipping the lyrics like a champ. Massive support from A-lite of EDM nowadays, such as Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Above and Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Paul Oakenfold, Eddie Halliwell and Andy Moor to name a few, it’s a pure statement that Greg has done a great job already.
With such a huge level of quality within his work, the success of this remix in particular comes down to his ability to engage the listener to an old pleasant feeling as it was when the original version of “Missing” was released, back in the days of 1995, when a melodic Jazzy-Pop track with a danceable mood has emerged. In other words, Greg is keeping the listener attentive at all times while playing the track, moments to reveal Tracey’s undeniable angelic voice. Trying to discover that special element that makes this remix so special, you can easily spot it as soon as you listen the original one. Therefore Greg is following a similar scheme from his English counterparts, looking forward to create a stronger foundation between the original vs the remix and the listening public, where he does succeed on the new releases is his personal style and own persona that makes this remix so special.
In the past decade we all had so many chances listening to many other remixes of this track, but this time there’s something catchy about this specific remix. Though he has gained some much-needed experience in the past few years, all bets are off in relation to his intention for perfecting the sound behind this serious major track. It’s obvious that despite all odds, Greg Downey’s remix it is something stellar in terms of productions and will easily succeed being acclaimed as one of the top major remixes along Todd Terry’s one. A huge achievement for someone that deserves it the most.
This is one of the top major remixes coming from Greg, so I reckon I can easily say that it definitely worth buying, but check out the remixes too, the whole One More Tune (OMT)’s remix package for EBTG’s “Missing.”
