One More Tune presents Cream Chilled Electronic
To describe Cream as a “clubbing pioneers” would not be far from the truth. Better known for their clubbing experience, the Liverpool based company made a huge impact in the UK, especially Ibiza and also throughout the world. They has built up their sound throughout the last 2 decade, being one of the most profound experience of the present. And yet here we are in 2011, with the Chilled Electronic’s debut compilation, a distinctive 60 tracks CD showcase, a talented, privileged album aware of its ambient distinction. Talented because of its playlist and privileged because the album literally got you back in the oldie but goldie times, the likes of The Doors, Simply Red, Tears for Fears, Goldie, Groove Armada and Vangelis for starters. More others names that are being showcased includes Royksopp, Massive Attack’s remix of Garbage, Moby, Cicada, Hybrid, William Orbit, Fatboy Slim, Dido, Bob Sinclar, Aeroplane, Orbital, Underworld and many many more others.
The album features a healthy line-up of established acts and under the radar producers who have gained the confidence of being advertised/supported by Cream itself. With that being said, take “The Doors – Riders On The Storm (Ibizarre Mix)” for instance, the very first track of the album, a highly Ibiza’s style for those melo nights, a heavy production and a huge loving remix, showcasing Jim Morrison’s own voice, released in 1971, being followed by “Air – La Femme d’Argent,” an early-morning sound-a-like track, that easily contemplates with the first track for sure. The Chillout/Ambient spirit takes you even further with some other major releases from Primal Scream, The Orb. Then there’s the slow, melancholic mood of Canny’s remix on Electribe 101′s “Talking With Myself” with their harmoniously piano sound. On the other hand Jakatta’s thrilled-out mix of Tears For Fears’ “Shout” is something that brings memories to the likes of those ones having a musical background of the ’80s. Right after this TNT (Top Notch Track) we are being introduced to another danceable track when Happy Mondays’ club mix of “Halleluja” sets in. Rocking a lyrical holster loaded with spirituality One Dove’s “Fallen” and Baby Boy’s mix of Goldie’s “Inner City Life” are taking over, extending our experience once more.
For the ones that loves Simply Red, here’s something undeniable, your chance to lose yourself into Mick Hucknall’s voice, Steppin’ Razor mix of “Thrill Me”, something to shout about, being inevitably thrilled by his performance. D.J. Shadow takes us back to the original roots of ambient music with his funky-jazz and psychedelic feeling of “Midnight In A Perfect World”, having a bit of instrumental hip hop sound-a-like, exactly as we all know him for. Another track with a San Francisco/Detroit sound, “Crazy Baby” from Akasha fits just well, being sustained by a Jazzy trumpet that makes it an unique track in its own way, being followed straight away by Leftfield’s “Original,” a vocal track that gives advice on personal self-education. Tom’s DnB mix of The Beloved’s “The Sun Rising” is another statement that Drum and Bass fits very well within a ChillOut/Ambiental CD every now and then. Another floor-filler coming from Groove Armada is the “Dusk You & Me” track, notable recounts the level of importance being given to their performance and not only. This is one of their top major tracks, where Groove Armada breaks that moody, lazy feeling into an ultimate danceable one for sure. Other tracks are also very impressive, coming from Art Of Noise or else Irresistable Force’s mix of Coldcut’s “Autumn Leaves”, Electra and The Grid. Cream lays out a decent foundation with their CD1, having “Rachel’s Song” performed by Vangelis the last but not least track of their first chapter (CD). With this original version of the track, Vangelis made something unique, a beautiful song, hypnotizing every single human being while listening, probably one of the top ten listened tracks of all times, so it was a good choice from Warner Music, proving once more that “good things always comes last.”

CD2 follows the same structure of it’s first instalment, but a more danceable one thou, introducing the listener to Ian Brown’s “Stellify,” followed by Al Kapranos’ remix on Little Boots’ “New In Town (No One Is Safe),” MGMT’s “Electric Feel,” or else the Bentley Rhythm Ace’s track “Bentley’s Gonna Sort You Out.” Another great track is “Silver Cruiser” performed by the Norgevian duo band Royksopp, masterfully made to keep us “chilled” out for some time. Right after this, Massive Attack’s mix on Garbage “Milk” follows, where love usually seems to be the main topic again. The listener is then introduced to Moby’s “Another woman,” a track sustained by an African Ashiko wood drum and vocals performed by Barbara Linda. Mike Snow’s “Faker” is yet another piano vs lyrics based track, where Sebastien Tellier’s “La Ritournelleone” it’s just undeniably great track, with a very nice melodic line too, where lyrics are performed by Sébastien Tellier himself. The next 2 following tracks has French names for some reason, first one being made by Leeds based Nightmares On Wax with his “Les Nuits” and New Zealand based rock group Cicada’s “Elle Et Moi.” Some more notable tracks just follows from Lamb, Maxence Cyrin, Fenomenon’s, Zero 7, The Aloof and Amillionsons. The last 3 tracks of this second CD are coming from David Holmes’s “Rodney Yates” or else the soundtrack edit of “Finished Symphony” performed by Swansea, UK based trio band Hybrid, having one of the most profound track of the album so far. None of the less, another top major track of all times, we are having the pleasure listening to “Barber’s Adagio For Strings” the original version made by William Orbit. Another track that made history, being hammered by so many luminaries within the whole musical spectrum.
If CD2 started being danceable, CD3 is even more! On “Knight Moves,” the Canadian famed and multi-talented musician/producer (born Jason Charles Beck, aka Chilly Gonzales) delivers a track with a very musical line indeed, where the second track follows right after, Tensnake’s “Coma cat” describes his ‘super nice flow’ with his danceable track. Another memorable track is coming from the Australian duo band Empire Of The Sun with their off-beat Electro Pop track album “Walking On A Dream” showcasing their dance moods. The Riva Starr’s remix on Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You” is something that brings some other good memories from late ’90s again. 2 other tracks of the album are Jamie XX’s remix of FaltyDL’s “Hip Love” and “November” from Daniel Tjus Andersen aka Blackbelt Andersen. Without no doubt, Dido is an artist that shouldn’t be left out when it comes to Chillout tracks, therefore Rollo & Mark Bates’s remix on “Sand In My Shoes” is yet another creative concept delivering a crisp, soulful production, the record climaxes with an Electro vibe that you will be humming for days. If this track made you feel good, the following one you won’t feel the transition, it’s just as good as this one thou. Yes! I am talking about Pink Frost’s remix of “Evening Star” from Todd Sparrow. Prepare yourself for a stormer, Bob Sinclar’s “Get Into The Music” is another Bob Sinclar sound-a-like track so you should know what to expect for sure. Frankie Knuckles’ mix of Rufus & Chaka Khan “Ain’t Nobody” is getting us back to old times, the 80′s Funk Soul Disco tweaked by Frankie is another track to remember. Taking it back, “Reckless (With Your Love)” from Azari & III is reminiscent of ’90s track, Aeroplane’s grand influence on “Superstar” as well. Few more great tracks are coming from Lindstrom, Reverso 68 with their Japonese Disco style on “Tokyo Disco (part 1)”, Faze Action, Defender, Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band and Orbital singing about Northern Ireland’s capital. Maybe other producers/artists stick to one style for fear of failing, but for Underworld’s “Second Hand” this assortment of musical range weighs heavily in their favor, a testament to their time spent in the studio. The very last track of the whole album is coming from New Order called “Elegia,” unusually for them, the track it is an instrumental, but it does fits with the album’s chillout perspective just fine.
While the overall review of Cream Chilled Electronic could have been tightened up, I just wanted to lay out a decent foundation throughout for all listeners to preview the whole album, which likewise may catch the interest to others that are searching for a new dynamic CD showcase.
